Position Overview:

The Vice President of Maintenance will oversee all maintenance operations for a fleet of 13,000 school buses and vans (and growing), and will be responsible for the strategic direction, efficiency, and safety of the fleet maintenance program. The VP of Maintenance will lead a team of maintenance managers, technicians, and support staff to ensure that all vehicles are consistently operating at optimal performance levels, while minimizing downtime and maximizing the safety of the fleet.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:

Lead and manage the maintenance division, including direct supervision of maintenance managers and technical staff Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance strategy that aligns with the company’s long-term goals and ensures fleet reliability, safety, and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations Provide vision and direction for the maintenance department, ensuring the team is equipped with the tools, training, and resources needed for success

Fleet Maintenance & Operations:

Oversee the preventive maintenance program, ensuring timely servicing and inspections of all vehicles to avoid unplanned downtime Manage vehicle repair programs and ensure all repairs are completed in a cost-effective, efficient, and timely manner Develop processes and strategies to address fleet needs, including vehicle replacement, upgrades, and retirements, balancing cost efficiency with fleet performance Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including safety standards, emissions, and inspection schedules Establish standards and best practices for model garage operations, promoting consistency, efficiency, and safety across all locations Partner with Warranty leadership to support the development and execution of a warranty reimbursement program aimed at maximizing cost recovery and streamlining claims management

Budget & Cost Control:

Develop and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring the cost of vehicle upkeep remains within allocated limits while maintaining high operational standards Analyze operational data to identify opportunities for cost reduction, process improvements, and vehicle longevity enhancement

Team Development & Performance:

Foster a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team Mentor, develop, and evaluate the performance of the maintenance staff, ensuring alignment with department goals and company objectives Lead recruitment efforts to attract top talent for the maintenance team, focusing on skills in vehicle repair, diagnostics, and safety protocols

Safety & Compliance:

Ensure all maintenance operations adhere to company safety policies and industry best practices Continuously monitor and assess the effectiveness of safety protocols, conducting regular audits and reviews Develop and implement emergency maintenance procedures for critical situations, ensuring the continued safe operation of the fleet

Collaboration & Communication:

Work closely with the Operations, Asset Strategy, and Electrification teams to ensure alignment on fleet needs, vehicle availability, and long-term planning Provide clear, regular communication regarding fleet status, maintenance challenges, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to executive leadership Represent the Maintenance department in cross-functional meetings and contribute to broader company initiatives

Qualifications:

Proven experience (10+ years) in fleet maintenance management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, maintenance best practices, and vehicle technologies Experience managing large teams and multi-location operations Exceptional budgeting, financial planning, and cost control skills Strong leadership abilities with a focus on team building, performance management, and professional development Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and engage with senior leadership Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Engineering, Business Administration, etc.), or equivalent professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:
