$159K – $209K a year 17 hours ago Benefits Dental insurance Employee assistance program Vision insurance 401(k) matching Qualifications System design Project management Industrial engineering Senior level Communication skills 10 years Full Job Description As Tatte’s Vice President of Operations Engineering, you will serve as the architect and strategic leader behind the physical and operational systems that power our commissary, bakery, and café infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for optimizing throughput, quality, labor efficiency, and scalability across our production and operations ecosystem — laying the foundation for sustainable growth and innovation. This is a foundational leadership role at a pivotal moment in our evolution, requiring a blend of technical expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and organizational influence. You will lead a growing team and partner closely with Real Estate, Culinary, Supply Chain, Finance, and Café Operations to deliver high-impact solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Infrastructure, Operations System Design & Optimization Lead the vision, strategy, and roadmap for operations engineering across commissaries, bakeries, and cafés. Design and implement scalable systems that optimize labor, production flow, capacity, quality, layouts, and equipment use in commissary, bakery, and production environments. Build best-in-class practices for layout planning, equipment standardization, and technical operations. Drive end-to-end process mapping, from ingredient receiving to final product dispatch. Facilities & Equipment Planning Scope and execute equipment upgrades, facility changes, and line improvements. Collaborate on new buildouts and capital projects — ensuring that infrastructure aligns with growth needs and operational flow. Partner with Real Estate, Culinary, and Supply Chain, to ensure cohesive execution of new initiatives. Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence Lead operational improvement initiatives with a LEAN or systems-thinking mindset. Build foundational practices around capacity planning, production modeling, and waste/yield analysis. Establish scalable systems for quality, efficiency, and labor productivity. Establish metrics, reporting, and data tools for ongoing performance tracking and improvement. Drive process standardization across locations to reduce variability and ensure high-quality output. Cross-Functional Influence Work closely with senior leaders to prioritize and execute high-impact projects. Be a thought partner to Culinary, Finance, and Ops teams to ensure operational feasibility and sustainability of innovation. Act as Tatte’s subject matter expert in operations engineering and systems. Translate strategic business needs into practical engineering and operations solutions. Communicate complex technical initiatives clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Future Team Leadership Lay the groundwork for a growing engineering function by establishing processes, tools, and standards. Shape the vision for future hiring and team development as the function scales.
Qualifications:
10+ years in operations, industrial engineering, or manufacturing leadership in food, CPG, or hospitality environments. Track record of executing complex, cross-functional projects in production or commissary settings Strong experience with facility layout, equipment strategy, and process design Confident working independently — you build, test, and adapt without needing a large team Hands-on approach with the ability to balance strategic thinking and tactical execution Strong communication and project management skills Values that align with Tatte’s mission of craft, hospitality, and quality at scale Experience operating effectively in a remote/hybrid environment while driving results across in-person teams.
Travel Requirement:
~30-50% (Boston HQ, Washington DC, commissaries, and new site development)
