We are currently seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Engineering Manager. This position is based in Mebane, NC.
We have a high visibility opportunity for a Product Development Engineering Manager for our Kidde Business Unit in Mebane, NC. The successful candidate must possess a strong engineering background, product development and technical leadership competencies to successfully support the Residential Fire Suppression and Signaling life safety product lines. This role manages a team of intermediate or experienced professionals in Design Engineering. Guides the preparation of designs and working plans, creates designs for reviews, and coordinates with engineering staff and other organizations regarding design engineering activities. Key Responsibilities
Provide technology and management leadership to the engineering and design teams primarily located in Mebane, NC. Lead a team of approximately 5 employees: responsible for people management, recruiting, development, performance management, compensation, and organizational strategy Hire, create and lead highly specialized teams focused on key technology growth areas in fire suppression
Promote a culture of safety, compliance, innovation, inclusion, technology, and intellectual property leadership
Lead the team to maintain business continuity, deliver new products, and to execute value engineering and cost-out programs on time with the highest quality and safety standards
Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical conduct in leading the organization, ensuring the protection of the environment, development of human resources, and application of sound business practices
Drive the Engineering change management process in the fire suppression project development Lead Technical Design reviews, ensuring quality, engagement and alignment with the business Lead/Develop the engineering team through the complete product lifecycle, from initial requirements to design, implementation, test, deployment, sustaining & end-of-life stages. Effectively represent the team internally & externally
Work with Product Management to define product roadmaps and establish/manage project plans, schedules, and resources to meet milestones and objectives Partner with Operations to ensure deliverables integrate into their systems within the overall product release schedule.
Creates and presents designs in Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR) to ensure effectiveness, viability and quality of designs
Provides technical leadership and assists in training less experienced engineers to help them diagnose and solve problems and build capabilities
Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development to exchange information, ideas and techniques for design of product or processes
Communicates with the other engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and ensure project completion
Confers with engineering staff and consults on specifications to evaluate interface between hardware and software and operational and performance requirements of overall system
Engineering CAD experience Travel Up to 20% including but not limited to USA and Mexico
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/industrial engineering 5+ years of experience in product development
Preferred Qualifications
Product development experience in life safety products Knowledgeable working with regulatory agencies and standards including UL and NFPA. Excellent communication, negotiating, and influencing skills to communicate technical issues across functions
A demonstrated leadership style that is collaborative and decisive, with a bias toward speed. Experience in Quality tools Demonstrated experience applying DfSS principles to product design
Proficient with 3D CAD modeling tools including SolidWorks Proficient in Microsoft O365, including Excel, PowerPoint, & OneNote Experience with ERP systems 6 Sigma knowledge desirable Spanish speaking
Simulation tools like FEA and CFD
