Description As the executive leader of the Instructional Division of Bladen Community College, the Vice President for Instruction is responsible for developing, advancing, and ensuring the quality of instruction and the implementation of the college’s academic vision, including the educational programs, faculty work, and improved learning outcomes. The VP for Instruction partners with the President and the President’s Senior Staff, as well as the President’s Council, to align the College’s strategic agenda with academic master planning, policy development, operational and instructional effectiveness, and student completion. The VP for Instruction reports directly to the College President and serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the College. Examples of Duties 1. Instructional Supervision. a.

2. Strategic Vision and Program Development
a. Plays a leadership role in developing and ensuring the execution of a vision that advances student access, excellence in teaching and learning, and student success across all instructional departments. b. Propose and develop new and innovative academic programming and/or training to further the mission of the College and grow enrollment. c. Responsible for recommending and implementing an organizational structure and plan for the instructional division that supports student success. d. Assist in the development of plans for facilities that meet the expanding needs of the college. e. Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of aligning teaching practice to different learning styles and utilizing multiple modalities, and works to advance the capacity and practice of faculty college-wide. f. Demonstrates a commitment to evidence-based practice by using data to make decisions, celebrate successes, and communicate priorities; regularly modifies evidence-based strategies and programs to account for changing landscapes, policies, and student needs. g. Demonstrates a commitment to improving student learning and success through strategic approaches to faculty appointment, professional development, evaluation, and assessment.
3. Collaboration
a. Deeply values the engagement of faculty and academic leaders throughout the College in advancing a strategic vision and understands the roles of academic leaders and decision-making processes in institutional transformation. b. Maintains strong relationships with other college executives, including the Vice President for Student Services, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Community Relations, Vice President for Finance, and Director of HR c. Work cooperatively with the Instructional Operations Administrator to develop instructional programming. d. Responsible for coordinating programming with local secondary educational institutions
e. Work collaboratively with area businesses and industries to create industry-specific training and ensure instructional programming meets business and industry needs.
4. Operations
a. Responsible for cooperating with the Vice President for Finance in the formulation and implementation of the budget as it applies to academic personnel salaries, benefits, and departmental operational expenses. b. Responsible for cooperating with the Vice President for Student Services in promotion of the College and programs, developing sound recordkeeping and student tracking, managing student learning challenges, developing additional funding sources through grant opportunities, and working with the Foundation to develop funding for the College and students. c. Assign instructional and support staff to academic directors. d. Responsible for the coordination of a comprehensive plan for program development, implementation, and evaluation. e. Responsible for recommending academic personnel for employment, reappointment, and termination. f. Responsible for the assignment of classrooms, laboratories, and other institutional spaces related to the support of instructional programs, as well as academic personnel workspaces. g. Direct, review, and approve the preparation and distribution of all master class schedules. h. Responsible for working across the college to develop and maintain record-keeping structures for FTE program compliance with state regulations and laws. i. Perform other assignments as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises full-time and part-time faculty and staff as assigned in the college’s organizational chart. EXPERIENCE

Minimum of Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education is required with a minimum of five to ten years of increasing management experience, with five years’ experience in an institution of higher education, preferably in a community college. Doctorate degree preferred. Teaching experience in a community college is highly desired.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and examinations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of faculty and students, visitors of the college, the board, and other community/civic groups. Possess and demonstrate effective written and oral communication and human relations skills. Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
