The Project Management Unit (PMU) is a high performing unit that delivers quality and innovative projects to the citizens of North Carolina. We are looking for an experienced Manager skilled in coaching and guiding Supervisors and Project Managers in delivering high-quality transportation projects, from concept to construction. This includes building and developing high performance teams by providing purpose, direction, and motivation. Additionally, this individual will need to work closely with Divisions, other discipline units, and stakeholders to understand expectations, remove obstacles, solve problems, and lead their team of Supervisors and Project Managers. Please check out our Project Management Unit video for more information. As the Team Lead, you will: Establish clear and attainable team goals and expectations.
Lead, guide, and coach a team of Supervisors and Project Managers to achieve project goals, deliverables, schedules, and Division expectations.
Develop strong relationships and seek to understand what motivates individuals.
Effectively communicate and collaborate with unit staff, other disciplines, the Division, and stakeholders to overcome obstacles, resolve issues, and ensure project milestones are reached on time. Evaluate resource needs, shifting staff and resources, as needed, to ensure quality expectations, deadlines, and overall project delivery goals are met or exceeded. Provide support to your team where needed to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of your team’s ability to meet PMU’s goals and expectations.
Conduct employee reviews, performance evaluations, address employee issues with appropriate disciplinary actions, and hire new employees. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Qualified applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Experience developing transportation infrastructure projects, including project planning and decision-making, preliminary and final design, and related technical/engineering analyses.
Experience with project management related to scope development, schedules, budgets, quality, and risk management. Experience with overall project delivery processes and related transportation and highway engineering, techniques, practices, procedures, and applicable requirements.
Experience with the development and administration of professional services and engineering contracts including scoping, estimating, negotiating, QA/QC, invoice review/approval, project closeout, and performance evaluation. Experience supervising permanent employees, including performance evaluation, employee development, and coaching. Experience organizing, developing, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and providing updates to Senior Leadership and project stakeholders.
