The Deputy BAED serves as the trusted partner to the Business Area Engineering Director (BAED) and is responsible for driving business operations, partnering with the team to deliver on our strategy to achieve business success, and positioning the business for continued growth. In this role, you are a key member of the leadership team and lead a portion of a large, borderless organization which is responsible for all aspects of performance in support of US Defense businesses. As such, you will assist the BAED with ensuring all aspects of solution design and development, including the application of core engineering processes, design reviews and technical bid reviews are appropriately tailored and deployed across the business area. You will also assist the BAED with leading the organization through a digital transformation that embraces model-based engineering and agile product development. Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely. The preferred work location for this resource is Southern NH, but we will also consider candidates local to Austin, TX with additional travel expectations. Specific Responsibilities Include:

Key leadership team member in setting and driving the CEMA Engineering strategy for the ES Sector. Partner and collaborate across ES Engineering (Business Area Engineering Directors and Disciplines) as well as other functions to effectively lead engineering across the enterprise. Identify and support the development of critical skills and talent across engineering. Develop and maintain measures related to engineering performance. Develop and lead change initiatives, continuous improvement activities and ensure adoption within the organization. Improve engineering process set and ensure engineering is audit ready at all times. Collaborate with the Operations and Quality organizations to ensure effective product transition and supplier partnerships. Attract and retain staff to support the business; and resolve resource and staffing issues. Meet financial objectives (indirect expenses and labor utilization). Identify and develop critical skills required to meet business objectives. Cultivate a high-performance culture and optimize organizational performance of a geographically dispersed team. Understand industry trends and best practices to ensure BAE Systems develops and maintains the capabilities required to provide technical discriminators. Required Education, Experience, & Skills Active Secret security clearance Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field and 15+ years of related experience or an advanced technical degree with a minimum of 12+ years of experience Proven ability to lead a dynamic organization across multiple sites with different cultures and experience levels Experience with formulating a vision and implementing action plans to achieve goals Experience collaborating and driving improvement across the functions responsible for product development including operations, quality, and program management Proven ability to share and transfer technology and know-how across organizational boundaries Demonstrate alignment with the sector’s cultural principles and model safe and ethical behavior Ensure compliance with appropriate company policies and procedures, especially those related to product design Proven performance in management, mentoring, coaching, and communication Demonstrated critical thinking skills and decision-making ability Business acumen and project leadership skills Ability to influence at all levels Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills Advanced technical degree with a minimum of 12+ years of engineering/management experience Proven track record of increasing responsibilities in managing organizations of significant complexity Active Top Secret security clearance, SCI clearance Experience implementing the latest product development processes and quality standards including AS9145 Experience in Digital Engineering, Agile and design for cost methods

Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range:

  • $288370 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures.

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
