Engineering Description Position Summary:

The Manager of Engineering is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the activities of the Engineering Department in preparing technical evaluations, designs, cost estimates, and specifications in providing project management oversight for engineering projects involving the construction or modification of facility equipment and structures. Receives general direction from the Chief Engineer and exercises direct supervision over assigned personnel.

Minimum Requirements Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Must have the ability to prepare, develop, analyze, and evaluate engineering construction plans and specifications. Must be able to comprehend, analyze, and interpret laws, rules and regulations relating to the treatment and disposal of wastewater. Must have the knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering as they apply to wastewater treatment and disposal. Must be familiar with the proper procedures used in the design and supervision of engineering projects. Must have the ability to supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff. Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and be highly adaptable to redirect departmental resources as required to meet the needs of the plant. Must be willing to work extended hours as required and be available on a 24/7 basis to respond to plant issues requiring immediate attention.

Experience and Education:

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or related Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university required. Additional preferred educational requirements include a Master’s degree or equivalent credits from an accredited college or university. License and/or

Certifications:

Professional Engineering (PE) License issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors or a PE License from another state which can be transferred. Completion of OSHA ten (10) hour general industry safety and health training.

Physical Demands:

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself and others is maintained. To perform the essential functions of this position the employee must be able to: sit, stand, walk, stoop, climb (including ladders), kneel, lift up to 25 lbs., carry, reach, push, pull, minor use of tools, use a keyboard, as well as have hearing and visual acuity. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks, as well as Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) in compliance with PVSC’s Facial Hair Grooming Policy.

Working Conditions:

Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors depending upon the nature of the position.

The expected base pay rate range for this position is between $159,866 to $210,787 annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, education, training, and formal credentials.
