$150,000•$200,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications) Position Overview SkillForce is seeking an experienced Grading Civil Superintendent to oversee grading operations on a heavy civil construction project in Newark, NJ. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, this role is responsible for managing field activities, ensuring safety compliance, maintaining schedules, and delivering quality results. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with a strong background in civil construction and must have prior experience working on complex infrastructure projects within the New York City Metropolitan Area. Familiarity with the unique regulatory, logistical, and operational demands of the NYC metro region is essential. Key Responsibilities Plan work methods, materials, equipment needs, and detailed schedules for grading activities Review daily and weekly schedules with field teams to ensure timely progress Interpret project plans and specifications to ensure work complies with contract and regulatory standards Coordinate with crews, field engineers, and utility companies to identify and address jobsite hazards Work with internal equipment teams and external vendors to ensure resource availability Forecast schedule or production issues and implement proactive solutions Serve as the primary on-site safety advocate, correcting hazards and enforcing protocols Supervise subcontractor performance and adjust resources to meet production goals Maintain accurate daily reports and meeting documentation Mentor and train team members in construction methods, equipment use, safety, and company policies Qualifications 10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction 5+ years in a construction management or supervisory role Demonstrated experience with infrastructure projects in the NYC Metropolitan Area Experience with erosion control, water, sewer, and storm drain installation Prior experience leading heavy equipment or grading crews High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred Strong knowledge of job site safety standards with proven enforcement ability Ability to interpret project plans, specifications, and applicable standards Familiarity with union or prevailing wage requirements Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) Valid Driver’s License required Why Join SkillForce Join a team that’s committed to building complex infrastructure with precision and safety, especially in the dynamic and demanding NYC Metro environment.
