Job Description

Summary Protection and Control Engineering is hiring a Manager to lead a team of engineers responsible for performing relay protection disturbance analysis, developing design standards for protective relaying and associated communications, supporting capital projects as needed, and leading the Digital Monitoring Equipment (DME) program. The role also ensures compliance with

NERC/NPCC

standards and drives continuous improvement in system protection, reliability, and design standardization. #LI-VB1Responsibilities Responsible to manage engineering team performing analysis and reporting for protective relay operations across the NYPA system, directly managing NYPA’s PRC-004 program. Manages execution of corrective action plans identified by the PSA team and recommends design standard changes to Protection & Control Engineering (PCE).
Responsible for technical oversight of NYPA’s DME (Digital Monitoring Equipment) across the NYPA fleet and associated

NERC/NPCC

standards. Coordinate requirements with Protection & Control Engineering and D&D for upgrades and replacements of DME.
Responsible for technical support of NYPA’s Maintenance and Testing program under PRC-005. Oversee the maintenance and continuous improvement of the

NERC/NPCC

compliance program and associated policies and procedures
Develops staff in key areas of expertise to support protection system analysis, maintenance and testing. Manage employees including performance management, salary administration, succession planning and workload balancing. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Experience in analysis and troubleshooting of protection & control systems, communications, and testing of such systems. Broad understanding of power system design, operation, maintenance and testing methods. Effectively manage engineering personnel as well as cross functional teams.
Ability to produce clear and concise written documents and oral presentations on technical, business and social issues.
Strong platform skills and ability to tailor presentation to the technical understanding of any audience.
Capable of building teams and fostering teamwork amongst both management and bargaining unit personnel; strong collaborative and negotiation skills to influence senior management, peers, outside policy makers and other NYPA personnel. Education, Experience and Certifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering or equivalent. A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
Minimum 5 years applicable experience preferred
Licensed as a Professional Engineer in NYS.
A working knowledge of industry codes and standards, such as IEEE, IEC and NEC. Physical Requirements Ability to access all areas of the plant including ability to climb and work at high elevations and in confined spaces; ability to walk a significant distance, sometimes on uneven ground.
A willingness to travel as much as 25% is required. The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $150,000 – $205,700. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
