Job Responsibilities
The Vice President (Academic Affairs/Institutional Excellence) leads educational programs and services that serve a diverse student population. Reports to the president, the VP is responsible for ensuring the quality of the academic curriculum, instruction, student assessment, and adherence to regional and programmatic accreditation, as well as supporting the integration of technologies and innovative pedagogies to enhance the learning environment. The VP responds to emerging issues, trends, and community needs and is passionate about the community college mission. The VP directs an innovative and high-quality learning environment that promotes excellence, innovation, and student success. The VP creates collaborative work teams and a culture where faculty and staff work together as partners in student success, builds consensus, develops and executes strategic and operational plans, and works effectively with internal and external constituents.
- Responsible for the planning and execution of key institutional effectiveness functions, including accreditation, research, and support of college and system initiatives and related strategic planning objectives. Supervises systematic evaluation and improves the merits of academic courses, programs, and instruction on all campuses, system initiatives, and related strategic planning objectives.
- Research, develop, and continuously evaluate and recommend courses and programs (credit and non-credit) to be established on all campuses (Central Campus, Tyger River Campus, Downtown Campus, and Cherokee County Campus) to the President, which will meet the needs of the area served by the College.
- Assists the President in establishing the organizational structure for the academic divisions of the College, properly correlating channels of communication, authority, and responsibility; coordinates communication and cooperative efforts among the academic divisions/services and between these areas and other operational units of the College to assure quality instruction and student support services•on all campuses as appropriate.
- Determines and recommends to the President the personnel necessary for the effective operation of all academic programs on all campuses of the College.
Evaluate the performance of academic personnel, take corrective action where substandard performance occurs, and review with the President the results of both evaluation and corrective action taken. Evaluate faculty development needs and coordinate faculty development programs with HR for all campuses within resource constraints.
- Supervision
- provides leadership and supervision to employees. Ensures focus on the success of campus goals through professional development, training, continuous improvement, recruiting, and retention of talent.
- Provide leadership and guidance by representing areas of responsibility through service on the President’s Cabinet and ELT.
Works closely with other senior administrators to ensure success. Represents the College through numerous community and state affiliations.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Master’s Degree plus 7 years of progressively responsible related work experience. Preferred Qualifications
An earned doctorate and a minimum of five years each of teaching and progressive academic leadership experience.
Additional Comments
May need to regularly attend meetings/conferences/workshops out of town and during evening hours. May oversee all College functions in the event the President is not available.
