Science | Service | Sustainability The Coastal Stormwater Permitting Section is recruiting for three (3) Engineer/Engineer Associate positions to support stormwater management and environmental compliance along our coast. Engineer/Engineering Associate I (Job 171348) Engineer/Engineering Associate II (Job 174923) Engineer/Engineering Associate III (Job 174922) The Coastal Stormwater Permitting Engineering Associate serves as an Engineer/Engineering Associate in the Coastal Stormwater Permitting Section in the Bureau of Water , assisting with the implementation of the State Stormwater Management and Sediment Control Program in coastal counties using extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering, as well as guidance from the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System General Permit for Construction Stormwater Discharges (NPDES CGP), NPDES General Permit for Stormwater Discharges from South Carolina Highway and Roadway Construction Activities (NPDES TCGP), South Carolina Regulation 61-9, Water Pollution Control Permits, South Carolina Regulation 72-300, Stormwater Management and Sediment Reduction Regulations, and others.

Job Responsibilities:

Reviews projects submitted for permitting under the NPDES Stormwater Program for conformance with regulatory requirements and sound engineering principles in the areas of stormwater management and sediment control design by checking drawings, calculations, and SWPPP and engineering reports. Prepares approvals for regulated activities. Works with consulting engineers and applicants to address deficiencies on plans and provide technical assistance on proposed and ongoing projects. Assists with section staff training and obtaining technical resources. Processes requests for permit coverage under

NPDES CGP

administratively when the project is located in an MS4 area and subject to MS4 technical review. Processes requests for permit coverage under the

NPDES TCGP

for sites under 50 acres. Prepares approvals for regulated activities. Assists with compliance assistance efforts for the NPDES Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) regulated entities in coastal areas. Provides technical assistance to MS4s and consulting engineers. Processes Notice of Terminations and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Maintains organized and accurate permit files, ensuring all relevant information is in the file. Ensures the permitting database and required tracking spreadsheets are updated and maintained with current and complete information for all projects. Assists with permitting reporting as necessary. Works with SCDES Regional, Bureau of Water Compliance and Enforcement, and Bureau of Coastal Management staff on issues or sites related to the stormwater program. Minimum and Additional Requirements A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Engineering students with an anticipated graduation date for Spring 2025 are encouraged to apply. Engineering degree must be accredited by EAC/ABET, CEAB, and Programs Recognized in the ABET “Washington Accord” Listings (Download PDF reader) or you must provide an approved equivalency letter from LLR Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
