Technician Job Description We are seeking a Technician to join our team in Boca Raton, Florida. This role is ideal for individuals interested in building a career in the environmental construction and consulting fields. You will compile construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring data, perform a variety of multi-media sampling activities, oversee environmental and remediation construction projects, and provide additional field and office support to geologists and engineers for a diverse private and public-sector client base. You will work independently or as part of a larger field support team on site-specific project tasks. Initial work will take place at the Monarch Landfill in Pompano Beach, focusing on the oversight and quality assurance of the installation of wells for a gas control system. Following this project, there may be opportunities to travel to other locations within the country. Responsibilities Perform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, geosynthetics, aggregates, and other materials primarily associated with landfill and/or waste containment system construction. Monitor contractor activities on job sites to ensure compliance with relevant contract documents such as technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, and CQA plans. Provide CQA observation and monitoring of various construction and/or environmental activities on enviro-civil construction sites. Perform multi-media sampling in support of investigations, monitoring programs, and other data collection projects. Prepare daily and weekly field reports, construction schedules, and progress reports. Ensure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policies and procedures. Interact with project personnel, including contractors, project managers, engineers, and clients, and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open communication and participation in work progress meetings. Assist in preparing final data packages, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices. Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in site-specific project health and safety plans and the company’s Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures. Perform tasks in other company practice areas, including general construction services, environmental sampling, contractor oversight, or construction quality assurance activities as needed. Essential Skills High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software programs. Strong mathematical experience with the ability to perform calculations in basic geometry and use of algebra. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated, and possess a strong work ethic. Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering. Ability to perform fieldwork and travel up to 90%. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in science, construction management, engineering, physical science, environmental science, or related subjects. Technical experience in civil construction services, geotechnical, environmental, or related engineering disciplines. Experience ensuring field activities comply with construction plans and specifications and the ability to monitor various activities. Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, including survey and topographical drawings. Experience with the operation of industry typical monitoring and data collection equipment, including but not limited to laptop and handheld computers, moisture/density gauges, scales, landfill gas meters, and other monitoring devices. Experience with multi-media sampling including soil, water, and air. Work Environment The work environment involves extensive fieldwork, requiring outdoor activities and travel for extended periods, including overnights, weekends, and holidays. Fieldwork constitutes up to 90% of the role, with overnight travel also up to 90%. Candidates must be located close to Broward County to stay close to management and local projects and must be able to travel for 4-6 weeks at a time when local work is slow. The typical work schedule includes some Saturdays, with a total of 50-60 hours per week. Projects include landfill gas system and control wells installation oversight. Company car may be provided if needed, but must be returned at the end of the day. Mileage for travel is typically expensed.
