INTERNAL

POSTING-only temporary or permanent NC state government employees or layoff candidates with the State of North Carolina eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126May Apply” This position serves as the County Maintenance Engineer for Guilford County (B), overseeing various aspects of highway maintenance operations. It involves technical, supervisory, administrative, and professional engineering responsibilities in addition to requiring expertise in planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing key functions within the department. The individual in this role will supervise multiple components of an engineering-oriented program and perform complex, high-level engineering tasks within the assigned area. Additionally, they will provide technical expertise and leadership while assisting program management with daily operations, quality assurance, staff development, and human resource functions. A significant part of the role includes interpreting and managing the Highway Maintenance Improvement Program (HMIP) in conjunction with the Roadway Maintenance Improvement Program (RMIP) to ensure optimal budget allocation, personnel management, and future maintenance needs. This position also requires analyzing NCDOT mid-grade spot safety projects, determining material requirements, and ensuring timely completion. The employee will be responsible for developing cost estimates while adhering to budgetary constraints and fostering collaboration across teams to enhance efficiency. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Experience in the management of multiple projects and scheduling and directing multiple work crews
Experience in the use of professional engineering skills and knowledge to troubleshoot and solve highway maintenance problems
Experience in tracking cost expenditures in various account systems on multiple large projects
Experience in conducting meetings with employees, citizens and public officials to conduct investigations and resolve various issues
Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining engineering concepts to various customer groups.

Additional Expectations:

The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes are needed for this position. Prefer experience with SAP/R3. Necessary Special Qualification:

May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
