Job Summary:

The Sprinkler Designer II is responsible for planning, designing, and laying out fire sprinkler systems-based on architectural and engineering drawings. This role involves developing detailed and accurate construction plans performing hydraulic calculations and ensuring compliance with applicable NFPA codes and standards. Once design documents are approved, the designer prepares comprehensive material stock lists and manages requisitions to support timely project execution. This position plays a critical role in coordinating various trades and ensuring that fire protection systems are effectively integrated into overall building designs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Design and layout of sprinkler systems using HydraCAD software Read and interpret construction documents and apply relevant NFPA codes and standards. Coordinate sprinkler system piping with structural, architectural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems to ensure integration and avoid conflicts Perform hydraulic piping calculations to ensure system functionality and compliance Conduct hydrostatic flow tests to validate water supply adequacy Perform field checks on job sites to verify dimensions, installations, conditions, and adherence to design specifications Perform stock listing and manage material procurement to support efficient and timely installations Carry out project management duties: attend job meetings, collaborate with superintendents to ensure project schedules are met, ensure that projects are completed within budget and to quality standards Upon project completion, compile comprehensive as-built drawings and develop the operations and maintenance manual for client handoff.

Job Requirements:

Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, drafting, fire protection technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience 2

  • 5 years of hands-on experience in fire sprinkler system design preferred.

NICET Level II certification in water-based systems layout preferred Proficiency with HydraCAD and 3D design tools preferred Strong knowledge of NFPA codes and standards (especially

NFPA, 13, 14, 20

) Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude, especially in performing hydraulic calculations Excellent organizational and time management skills. Proven ability to work independently as a self-started and collaboratively within a team environment

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Primary work setting is an office environment using computers and design software Occasional travel to customer facilities or construction job sites is required, which may involve exposure to clean or unclean environments, varying temperature conditions, or navigating active construction zones. Personal protective equipment may be required in the field, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel toed boots.
