This contract role offers the opportunity to engage with critical environmental and occupational safety initiatives in a dynamic, hands-on setting.

Position Overview:

As an EHS Generalist, you will report to the site EHS Manager and be responsible for developing and implementing safety, health, and environmental strategies across both facilities. You’ll work under minimal supervision to identify risk, drive compliance, and foster a culture of proactive safety. The role is well-suited for professionals who thrive in a fast-paced industrial environment and are passionate about creating safe and sustainable workplaces.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Program Support (40%) Partner with staff to implement programs related to occupational health, ergonomics, hazardous waste, facility safety, and emergency preparedness. Support company and program standards to build and maintain a positive safety culture. Coordinate with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies as needed. Compliance & Auditing (20%) Conduct regular safety and environmental inspections and audits. Track emerging regulations and evaluate their impact on operations. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company policies. Risk Evaluation & Mitigation (15%) Lead and support safety investigations, root cause analysis, and process improvements. Recommend engineering or administrative controls to mitigate hazards. Monitor corrective actions and maintain documentation. Program Development (10%) Design and assess facility safety programs and related monitoring procedures. Develop training materials and assist in rollout of safety initiatives. Regulatory & Technical Support (15%) Interpret and apply regulations including OSHA, RCRA, DOT, EPCRA, SPCC, and others. Provide technical expertise and guidance to cross-functional teams and leadership. Stay current with advancements in risk management and EHS best practices.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or related field. 8-10 years of professional experience in EHS roles within manufacturing or industrial settings. Hands-on experience with hazardous waste management (RCRA and DOT training preferred). Strong knowledge of environmental regulations including air, water/stormwater, and waste compliance. Familiarity with life safety programs such as confined space, hot work, working at heights, and lockout/tagout. Full understanding of OSHA General Industry and Construction standards. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience with incident investigations, ergonomics, root cause analysis, and safety data sheet (SDS) interpretation. Ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust to changing priorities. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, if required. Willingness to occasionally work varied hours to support operational needs. Must be able to commute regularly between two Huntsville area facilities.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

Physical ability to navigate both office and manufacturing environments. Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally. Comfortable with frequent walking, climbing, bending, and standing in production areas. Visual and auditory ability to work safely around equipment and communicate effectively. Willingness to travel (less than 5%) by car or plane as needed. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and protective footwear. #
