The Senior EHS Specialist applies strong understanding ofEH&S processes, procedures and resources to drive projects andtasks to completion. Embraces and implements business and processimprovements within EH&S. Works on moderately complex EH&Sproblems and considers relative value of several alternativesolutions to potential issues before confirming a final decision asto the path forward. While having general responsibilitiesassociated with the EH&S field such as safety, industrialhygiene, biosafety, radiation, chemical hygiene, emergencyresponse, ergonomics, training, construction, animal facilities,etc.
A typical day might include:
Drives EH&S-based tasksemploying specialized domain knowledge and developed, focusedbusiness expertise Recognizes training opportunities and developsEH&S training content for online, on the job training andclassroom training sessions. Performs training as necessaryPerforms industrial hygiene monitoring of laboratory and supportpersonnel to interpret data and determine potential exposure tohazardous chemicals; ensures completeness of data Responsible foraccident rate remediation; completes accident reports, conductsaccident investigations and investigates trends and adjustsdepartment responses accordingly Develops and leads programs,initiatives, and activities for the EH&S department with focuswithin the research and development and animal research facilitylabs and with a focus on such programs but not limited to,ergonomics, lab design, IACUC support, new target characterization,Collaborates with and assists in driving communication between keypartners and with other members of the EH&S team May begin tosupervise a team of employees performing EH&S tasks concerningvarious health and safety programs. Performs EH&S audits oflabs, lab support areas, animal research facilities, and officesMay assume responsibility for or assist with regulated programcompliance, such as Department of Transportation (DOT), biosafetyprogram, radiation, chemical safety and inventory, ergonomics,department metrics, and machine guarding. Provides emergencyresponse support during medical emergencies, evacuations, hazardousmaterial spills, etc. and available 24/7. Conducts weekly radiationsurveys in applicable laboratories and maintains surveyingequipment. May have EH&S Business Partner responsibilities forlaboratory groups. Participates in professional developmenttraining and activities. This role might be for you if you have:
Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Proficient incomputer skills, such as microsoft suite. Ability to learnspecialized software applications and specialized safety andindustrial hygiene equipment. Frequently interacts with end usersand various management levels including senior management. Abilityto prepare and conduct presentations of technical EHS informationconcerning specific projects. Ability to develop and conduct EHStraining sessions. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. To be qualifiedfor this role you will need 5 years experience in related field andindustry, and we require a BA/BS degree. A degree in a sciencerelated field is preferred. We are looking for someone who hasexperience working in a lab environment. An advanced degree and/orcertifications (Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified SafetyProfessional, Associate Safety Professional, Certified HazardousMaterials Manager and/or Medical Emergency Technician) are a plus.•This role requires working onsite a minimum of 5 days a week.
