The Investment Casting Engineer leadsthe implementation and operation of the investment casting productline. This individual serves as the subject matter expert forinvestment casting at Materion. A strong technical castingbackground is required. Candidates should be knowledgeable oncasting processes and have experience with determining the causesfor casting defects. The holder is expected to both identify thecauses for defects in our Al-Be investment castings and thenimplement the appropriate process changes for theirelimination.

This individual manages the investment casting productline, balancing the requirements from – Customers, Vendors, Sales,Machine Shop, Quality, and Operations. The investment castingengineer will likely need to interface with customers, potentialbusiness partners, and US Government organizations. In addition tothe technical developmental responsibilities, the holder will alsobe responsible for safety, production, quality, and spendingcontrol of projects as assigned.

You will have the opportunityto:

Comply with and support all EH&S activities while operatingin a safe, honest, and ethical manner.

Design and optimize gatingfor investment casting products.

Create and maintain standardoperating procedures (SOP), routings, work instructions, and billsof material for investment casting products.

Achieve and maintainnecessary quality levels for investment casting portfolio;including radiographic, geometric, and material propertyrequirements; implementing corrective actions wherenecessary.

Evaluates performance of manufacturing operations andexpedites actions as required to obtain maximum productionefficiency.

Maintain product schedule and relationships with keyvendors.

Independently drive and lead multiple programs with variouscustomers.

Perform detailed cost analysis for new products and costreduction opportunities.

Evaluates operations direct variable cost(DVC) and manufacturing yield performance. Recommends andimplements cost reduction activities.

Operate independently ofdirect management while keeping management informed of progress andany important issues.

Support new products with customer visits asrequired.

Assist with other duties as assigned by EngineeringSupervisor.

REQUIREMENTS

MinimumExperience/CapabilitiesUndergraduate degree in engineering (e.g.

Materials Science, Mechanical)3+ years of professional technicalexperience with investment castingDemonstrated ability tosuccessfully lead technical projects and teamsExcellent written andpresentation skillsIdeal Experience/CapabilitiesUndergraduatedegree with materials focus (e.g. Materials Science, Metallurgy,Ceramics)Interpersonal skillsExperience supplying castings to theaerospace industry under AS9100 or equivalent.

Experience leveragingLean Six Sigma methodology and tools.

Experience managing vacuumcasting equipment, furnaces, and finishing equipment.

Experience intooling design and manufacturing.

Experience in geometricdimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T).Experience in investmentcasting gating design, solidification, and defect analysis.

Provenproduct and/or process development skills.
