Job Description

Engineering Technician Sheffield Metals International 4295 Mcever Industrial Drive NW, Acworth, GA 30101 This is a hybrid engineering position that is part of a diverse team that serves all the SMI locations but is based in Acworth, GA. There is a wide mix of duties ranging from hands-on projects to acting in an advisory role assisting branch management, to on-site management of problems and improvement projects. The Engineering Technician must think analytically with task ownership while exhibiting exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. This role includes proactively working toward continuous improvement utilizing Lean Six Sigma Principles. Job Duties 1. Utilizing Lean Six Sigma Principles, find ways to reduce waste, improve production efficiencies to meet on time delivery, improve product quality and other production metrics 2. Hands-on position, 70% manufacturing floor / 30% office ratio 3. Create shop equipment and preventative maintenance schedules 4. Coordinate with plant leadership to schedule projects and repair with concern for production schedules 5. Be the point of contact and manage on-site contractor activity ensuring compliance to safety 6. Review and improve, process flow, data, and activities as identified 7. Perform cost benefit analysis, ROI and monitor overhead to assist the financial planning process to exceed the yearly budget 8. Design and implement control systems to ensure products meet industry standards and improve efficiency 9. Communicate with internal/external partners about product specifications, purchasing, and current production capabilities 10. Maintain communication with management on lean project status 11. Focus on workflow while balancing many factors including production time, labor requirement, course of action, product quality optimization, removing obstacles, using technology, ERP system, all other tools and resources 12. Ensure and maintain employees’ safety and environmental concerns 13. Understand and implement the 5s Visual Management System 14. Be actively engaged in the claims process as requested to assist with equipment causing reject or secondary product 15. Other duties as assigned Education At least 2 years in an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering or related discipline Experience & Skills Prior engineering experience in a manufacturing environment preferred Six Sigma Green Belt (black belt a plus) or Lean training preferred, with excellent organizational skills Experience in conflict resolution, direct labor utilization, budgeting, maintaining equipment, maintenance schedules of mission critical equipment Ability to identify bottlenecks and determine effective solutions Ability to identify cost savings strategies and implement promptly and effectively Requires solid written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated mechanical aptitude Demonstrated skill with hand tools, power tools and welding Basic knowledge of electrical/control circuits Hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies Strong analytical, conceptual, and planning skills are required Excellent math skills and overall PC literacy (Microsoft Office) are required, AutoCAD or SolidWorks a plus Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and disciplined with the ability to multi-task Must successfully complete a criminal background check, physical, drug screen and E-verify The Mazzella Way Mazzella is a family owned company that puts people first.
