SUMMARY
The Packaging Engineer I identifies key supplies in an effort to utilize returnable containers for maximize safety, storage, protection and shipping. Creates cost reductions as a result of choosing packaging that is flexible and will accommodate multiple products; and creates packaging guidelines in conjuction with industry standards, best practices and customer requirements. The Packaging Engineer I consults with purchasing and manufacturing departments and determine costs and feasibility of proposed packaging. The information is used to create cost justification presentations to review with customer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop cost reductions as a result of packaging that is flexible to accommodate multiple products.
Create cost justification presentations to review with customer.
Develop packaging guidelines in conjunction with industry standards, best practices and customer requirements
Develop sketches specifications, samples and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval
Analyze engineering drawings and product specifications to determine part characteristics to ensure proper development of protective packaging taking safety and special handling into consideration
Maintain returnable container master by supplier
Train and educate customers (internal and external) on program
Ensure packaging can be utilized throughout all processes of the operation
Identify key suppliers to utilize returnable containers to maximize safety, storage, protection and shipping
Right size required product and research alternative container methods; Maximize material handling efficiency
Consult with purchasing and manufacturing departments to determine costs and feasibility of proposed packaging
Assist with implementing reusable containers
Provide guidance to purchasing on the supplier cost of the container versus corrugated, wood, etc

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree Packaging Engineering.
