Job Description

Process Engineer Concordia Manufacturing, LLC Coventry, RI 02816 Concordia Fibers, a world class converter of synthetic yarns and carbon fiber for use in high end textile applications and advanced composites, is looking for a Process Engineer to join our technical support team to support challenging new business opportunities within our composite fibers business. Concordia Fibers, founded in 1920 as a manufacturer of silk yarns, has re-engineered its textile capabilities over the past 105 years to expand into synthetic yarns and yarns for advanced composites in the aerospace, automotive, filtration media, power transmission belts, and many other industries. We have developed new proprietary fiber processes to support the growing requirement for weight-saving carbon and glass composites in numerous market segments. We are currently working with several OEM’s, Tier 1 suppliers and academic institutions to develop optimal solutions for use of our commingled fiber in leading edge thermoplastic composites.

POSITION SUMMARY

Process Engineer will report to the CEO and be able to apply proven skills and knowledge to manage, document and accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously. Be responsible for process improvement and expansion activity as well as the introduction of new products into manufacturing.

  • Develop and document new manufacturing methods to support new products or process improvements
  • Lead new product builds on the floor; providing proper documentation, training of operators, ordering and tracking of raw materials, scheduling of prototype build and ensuring process capability to meet customer requirements.
  • Interact with customers to ensure product requirements are understood and documented, to convey process capabilities and the ability to meet product requirements, dictate a schedule and provide final build results.
  • Specify, order and qualify new manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform process experimentation and capability studies using applicable six sigma tools for experiment setup and analysis.
  • Apply problem solving techniques and comprehensive root cause analysis to resolve corrective actions.
  • Review process flow and equipment setup methods and identify and implement improvements to streamline and eliminate waste.
  • Create and maintain process and equipment documentation
  • Interact with manufacturing personnel to get input and conduct training on new equipment and processes.
  • Write and execute appropriate test methods and validation protocols
  • Develop and create any custom fixturing to support new products or improve existing processes.
  • Work with new materials to ensure proper qualification/validation prior to release to manufacturing.
  • Prepare formal reports for assigned tasks outlining all test methods, data, results and conclusions.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Competency Statement(s)

Problem Solving Skills:

Ability to use DMAIC or other structured approach to problem solving and process improvement.

Analytical Skills:

Proven experience in the use of six sigma concepts for troubleshooting, understanding and improving process capabilities including proficiency in Gauge R&R, SPC and DOE.

Lean Manufacturing:

Demonstrated success implementing lean techniques and streamlining process flow and eliminating waste.

Team Player:

Ability to work with and interact with all employees. We have a small work force and pride ourselves on an honest and open working environment.

Communication Skills:

Demonstrated ability in writing protocols and work instructions as well as interacting with customers and vendors.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education:

BS in

Engineering:

Industrial, Mechanical or Textile preferred

Experience:

5 years of experience in a production manufacturing environment applying the concepts listed above. Textile manufacturing experience preferred but not required. Plastics processing experience preferred Other Requirements Ability to work proficiently with all MS Office Applications. Experience working with and applying lean manufacturing principles and performing six sigma statistical analysis. Familiarity with statistical software, Minitab or other, preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Face and hand protection as well as ear plugs in the manufacturing area.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work performed in a combination of office and manufacturing environment with exposure to elements such as noise, dust, heat, cold, and other elements.
