Manufacturing Engineer – SMT Job Description

  • Evaluates anddevelops processes that meet product performance, high volumesurface mount manufacturing, high reliability requirements.
  • Constantly strives to improve the Cpk of surface mount processes byactively using SPC and problem solving methodology.
  • Determinesfailure mechanisms related to materials and processes for surfacemount assembly and related processes. Formulates and executesyield, reliability, manufacturability improvements under tight timeconstraints in a team environment.
  • Works with appropriate design,quality, operations and manufacturing groups to ensure productperformance, reliability and manufacturability requirements aremet.
  • Individual will be hands on in creating paste and fluxprinting programs, AOI inspection programs, solder paste inspectionprograms and creating reflow profiles. This role will be hands on.
  • Individual will assist and take part in printed circuit boardreviews with an emphasis on design for manufacturability. Education/ Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical, Chemical or IndustrialEngineering.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in surface mounttechnology
  • Solid understanding of high volume equipment,materials and processes for a world class surface mount assemblyline.
  • Must be proficient in Minitab or other statistical analysissoftware and in Excel.
  • Demonstrated experience in improvingyields, throughput and Cpk in a high volume surface mountproduction line.
  • Hands on experience in creating solder paste andflux printing programs as well as SPI and AOI inspection programs.

Competent in creating reflow profiles.

  • Knowledge of SPC, designof experiments and statistical analyses and has applied thisknowledge to making measurable improvements.
  • Familiarity with SixSigma tools such as failure modes and effects analyses and controlplans to identify and prevent problems.
  • Ability to be anindependent, creative thinker to solve cutting edge technicalchallenges. Welcomes a fast paced work environment.
  • ASM SiplacePick and Place experience preferred but not required.
  • Excellentwritten and verbal communication skills.
