Machining and Metrology Engineering Lead Location:

Bidderford, Maine (100% onsite – relocation assistance available)

Salary:

$100,000-120,000 Position Overview The Machining and Metrology Engineering Lead is responsible for overseeing the machining and metrology processes within the organization. This role involves leading a team of engineers to ensure high-quality manufacturing processes, implementing best practices, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities Partner with clients to address technical challenges in manufacturing and provide recommendations for design optimization. Assist in assessing new capital equipment by gathering data to inform decisions, supporting installation, and ensuring successful integration and commissioning. Oversee the qualification and refinement of new machining and metrology processes for manufacturing. Work closely with team members, engineering leadership, and external partners to coordinate activities and address issues effectively. Contribute to proposal development, cost estimation, and technical reviews for potential projects. Ensure that all process developments are conducted safely and adhere to established guidelines and standards. Perform root cause investigations for process deviations and analyze data to guide resolution and improve decision-making. Collaborate with vendors and external partners to troubleshoot, repair, and optimize machinery. Develop or coordinate the creation of process-specific tooling in partnership with tool designers and manufacturers. Create comprehensive documentation to support and standardize newly developed processes. Work with vendors and industry collaborators on procuring and advancing manufacturing tools and equipment. Other duties as needed Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 5+ years of experience in machining and metrology engineering. Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes and metrology systems. Experience with CAD tools and fixture design. Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Proven experience in project management and leading engineering teams. Excellent technical writing skills for process documentation and proposals. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in root cause analysis and process improvement.
