Controls Design Engineer Job Description The Controls Design Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the creation of standards in the retail space. This role involves coordinating with client management and engineering teams to discuss project progress, and overseeing the work of others. The engineer will provide electrical/controls design on product improvements for the electrical/controls infrastructure of manufactured product lines and coordinate site-wide drawings as applicable per site/project. These design activities ensure that equipment/sites/projects are built and applied per engineering documents, manufacturing, and other required standards such as UL and NEC. The main goals are safety, quality, functionality, and overall conformity of products. This role requires both independent and collaborative work, contributing to moderately complex aspects of projects. Responsibilities + Oversee the creation of standards in the retail space. + Coordinate with client management and engineering teams to discuss project progress. + Oversee the work of others. + Provide electrical/controls design on product improvements for electrical/controls infrastructure of manufactured product lines. + Coordinate site-wide drawings as applicable per site/project. + Ensure equipment/sites/projects are built and applied per engineering documents, manufacturing, and other required standards such as UL and NEC. Essential Skills + Degree in Electrical Engineering. + Minimum of 8 years of related experience. + Proficient with AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent software. + Knowledge of UL, NEC, and NFPA 79 standards. + Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, single lines, product manuals, control drawings, work instructions, written directions, and markups to electrical/control drawings. + Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills. + Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Strong desire for continuous improvement. + Positive can-do attitude. + Occasional requirement to inspect products in-progress in manufacturing. Work Environment This role is onsite at a facility in Durham, NC. It requires interfacing with production as builds are in progress to ensure projects are on time and of high quality. The rest of the time will be spent in an office setting behind a CAD screen.
