Job Summary We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to join our Manufacturing Engineering Team in Group Trucks Operations North America as a Cab Manufacturing Engineer – internally known as Technical Preparation Engineer. The Technical Preparation Engineer drives manufacturability of a vehicle module or assembly module within Cab Conventional by ensuring that the product design meet manufacturing/assembly requirements and is aligned with Volvo Operations Concept & Volvo Production System. TPE is the main interface towards Group Trucks Technology (Vehicle Engineering & Complete Vehicle) and Group Trucks Purchasing for Product related subjects. Digital Mock-Up (DMU) and other Digital/Virtual manufacturing tools are used to analyze Product, Process and Resource (PPR) preparation, as well as performing simulations to ensure manufacturability. The position reports to the Manager Manufacturing Engineering – Cab TPE Core Responsibilities Liaison between Vehicle Engineering and the Manufacturing Facilities ensuring that manufacturing requirements are implemented into new product designs
Drive manufacturability, increased quality, and productivity of all new designs within area of assignment: Emphasis is placed on accuracy; accountability/ownership; adherence to formal internal and external standards, procedures, and processes; and accurate, acceptable documentation and report writing
Review, participate in, and ensure production readiness
Coordinate implementation of new designs and changes into the manufacturing facilities
Ensure resolution of design issues identified by manufacturing or impacting manufacturing
Participate on manufacturing teams and networks (locally and globally)
Serves in a resource capacity for more complex assignments
Coordinates and performs less complex manufacturing engineering tasks that assists the mission of the unit, department and/or assembly facilities
Requires the ability to interpret theories and concepts of a specialized area or assignment
Serves as full-performance manufacturing engineer in assigned areas
Assures compliance with all applicable manufacturing policies and procedures (Ergonomics, 6 Sigma, Packaging, Logistics, Standards, 5S, etc.)
Product Assembly simulations (clash and proximity analysis)
Ergonomic simulations regarding Volvo ergonomics standards
Tooling simulations (standard and specific tools)
DMU Build Up (multi-specs environments, packaging check)
Write study report including manufacturing feedback
Report conclusions to all stakeholders according to requesters
Assist realization of digital assembly sequence of complete Virtual Builds vehicles or sub-module, following project assembly sequence
Provide DMU assist for Assembly Instructions realization (Routing, Process Diversity, Projects Builds and sub modules)
Who are you? Minimum Education and Experience Required Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with, generally, experience equivalent to 2 or more years of progressive automotive experience. Or Master’s Degree Additional Skills Required PLM tools (Product Life Management) for DMU build-up (Enovia, PDM Link)
CAD tools (PTC CreoElements Pro, PTC CreoView, DS Catia, DS Delmia)
Knowledge of Volvo Manufacturing/Engineering Systems (SPRINT, KOLA, ORF, DIS)
Knowledge of Volvo product/manufacturing
Lean Manufacturing knowledge and Techniques
Capacity to work with technical drawings and conceptualize manufacturing solutions
