- SUMMARY
Responsible for providing Manufacturing Engineering and Continuous Improvement support to the Metal Plant Fabrication and Welding areas with limited direction or supervision.
The successful candidate will utilize their experiences and knowledge of lean/continuous improvement tools to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Costs within the Metal Plant. The position will partner with the Plant Manager and Operations Leadership Team in problem solving efforts which reduce waste, eliminate variability and increase our overall manufacturing efficiencies. A proven track record of improving and sustaining results using formal problem solving and process improvement tools such as 5 Whys, Pareto analysis, 8D, PFMEA, Daily Management, etc. will be key for this role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Independently identify, develop and drive innovative process improvements which improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Profitability within the business.
Research best practices to develop and implement innovative / world-class manufacturing processes to include appropriate capital equipment and technology identification, selection and implementation.
Train production personnel as needed on process changes and improvements.
Evaluate jobs, workstations, cells for appropriate ergonomic and safety issues.
Identifies, plans and leads Kaizen/lean continuous improvement events to include Kaizen charter development, proper selection and use of lean tools, appropriate problem-solving activities, action plan developments, project plans, etc.
Sustains results of Kaizen/lean events by implementing processes and tracking key metrics as required.
Drive problem-solving activities for production related problems.
Provide technical assistance and work with Design Engineering to solve daily production issues.
Implement new processes and techniques to improve fabrication and weld productivity and increase the flow of parts from raw material through final welded products.
Supports New Product Development team for fabrication and welding to assist in developing the manufacturability of new products through new process development or modification of existing processes to meet criteria of new product.
Support the strategic objectives of the business through special projects.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and must be able to lift and/or move up to ten pounds.
The employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and hear, reach with arms or hands, use hands to finger, feel or handle.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, twist and turn, climb or balance.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and wet or humid conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet with moderate noise in certain areas.
EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
5+ years of experience in a metals fabrication facility directly supporting manufacturing.
Experience and working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement tools within a manufacturing operation required.
Experience in data analysis and problem solving to include the use of run charts, Pareto analysis, PFMEA, 5 Whys, 8D, and other problem-solving techniques preferred.
