Detroit Speed is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team and play a key role in developing manufacturing processes, work instructions, fixtures, and production equipment at our Mooresville, NC location. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll work closely with our Operations and Engineering teams to enhance manufacturing processes and drive continuous improvement. What You Will Do:
Process Development & Optimization:
Develop and optimize manufacturing processes to ensure safe and efficient production. You will analyze workflows, space utilization, and equipment layout to enhance productivity, while establishing cycle time and set-up time estimates for various manufacturing processes.
Equipment & Fixture Design:
Design, create and put into action jigs, fixtures, and specialized equipment to support both new and existing products. You’ll also lead initiatives to improve machine performance, troubleshoot equipment, tooling, and fixtures, and ensure they meet quality standards.
Documentation & Standardization:
Create and maintain work instructions and SOPs to ensure consistency and efficiency across processes. You will also provide technical guidance and training to the operations team to ensure they follow best practices.
Cost Reduction & Continuous Improvement:
Drive efforts to identify unnecessary costs and research methods for cost reduction. Continuously improve processes through innovative solutions that help reduce production costs while enhancing operational efficiency.
Technical Support:
Provide technical support for plant layout, equipment upgrades, and support the purchase and installation of new equipment to improve manufacturing processes.
Other duties as beneficial to the success of QA1.
The Critical Skills and Experience You’ll Need:
Bachelors degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or Process Engineering
Minimum 2-4 years of relevant experience required Preferred experience: Hands-on experience with fabrication processes (i.e., welding, laser cutting, tube bending), in automotive industry
Infrequent travel to QA1 headquarters in Minnesota.
Hands-on, proactive approach to problem solving and quality improvement.
Positive attitude with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Hands-on troubleshoots experience with manufacturing equipment.
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and listening) with the ability to build strong relationships across teams.
Proficient in Microsoft Office product and SolidWorks
Ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
