Responsibilities Byers Engineering, a MasTec company, is seeking a full-time OSP Designer in support of a large-scale telecommunications project for both OSP Fiber and Copper Networks. Position requires experience with outside plant in aerial, buried and/or underground facilities, with a thorough knowledge of all issues related to federal, state or local government permitting; as well as pole and conduit licensing procedures with utility permitting agencies. The OSP Engineer must work cohesively with the Engineering PM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Receive field data collected, analyze local and wide area network systems, and develop most cost efficient fiber/copper network route design in accordance with customer specifications and guidelines. Read and understand road prints, utility maps, and as-builts to identify conflicts with existing facilities. Collaborate with any necessary vendor, as well as internal GIS and CAD teams to produce all required documentation for application packages. Follow very specific and detailed procedures already implemented while remaining flexible enough to readily adapt to changing standards and procedures without notice. Coordinate with project team for forecasting, scheduling, resources management, and quality assurance. Review project deliverables for accuracy and apprise project management team of risks, issues, and recommended mitigations. Work in tandem with various managers across the project to identify scope creep, manage to change orders, and complete routine billing. Ensures the integrity of the customer access network is maintained and provides support for the deployment of access technologies. Assist with as-built package completion and delivery as well as billing closeout.

Qualifications Required Skills:

Sound OSP engineering experience deploying fiber optic and Copper networks – Knowledge of engineering principles within OSP job related functional area including general practices, procedures and industry standards. Knowledge of fiber optic and copper counts, fiber assignments, and splicing schematics in all ISP/OSP environments. Knowledge of engineering tools including IQGEO, AutoCAD,or any similar GIS/KMZ platforms. Proficient in Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Google Sheets and Google Drive.

Skills:

Possess STRONG communication & PEOPLE skills Strong language skills are required, both oral & written Show a “sense of urgency” to get the job done to meet all due dates Follow-up with our customer and provide a status of any and all assigned work Proven ability to communicate effectively at multiple levels: from team members to executive management.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field is preferred, OR Telecomm, Engineering, or Drafting completed courses and diploma from a technical school or community college Qualify on pre-employment screening, including a non- negligent driving record Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required Must pass a drug test

It really helps reconstruction into construction really grow and construction to know beforehand what obstacles they will run into. Education, skills, networking, and trends for this industry are ever growing and changing, I would always encourage people to join into this field because it’s something that will never go away with utility construction and construction industry as a whole. It’s a good trade to be in. I’ve been doing it for the last 10 years and I really enjoy doing this, and it’s really made a difference to me. I like being able to help people get new internet.
