Distribution Design Engineer I Job Description This role is responsible for planning, engineering, and designing electric and gas distribution systems. The position involves determining the need, size, location, and timing of power delivery infrastructure development, balancing economic, environmental, social, regulatory constraints, and reliability needs. Duties include developing work packages for overhead, underground residential distribution, and underground cable/conduit field engineering, identifying conflicting utilities, conducting engineering and design calculations, and performing post-construction reviews. Responsibilities Develop construction work packages for electrical distribution systems, including overhead, underground, and underground residential distribution. Create work packages using GIS and CAD. Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis of poles, cable pulling, electrical demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and coordination of protective devices. Facilitate permit and right-of-way acquisition. Estimate project costs. Acquire necessary materials for projects. Conduct field investigations. Essential Skills 1+ years of electrical engineering experience. Proficiency in AutoCAD design and understanding of GIS. Field inspection and electrical design skills. Knowledge of electrical, power distribution, power and utilities, distribution design, schematic, and power delivery principles. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. 0-3 years of experience in a similar role. Ability to travel for field visits and site investigations. Experience in electric utility or similar design engineering roles is preferred. Work Environment Work from home until a New Jersey office is established. Daily travel to project sites in northern and central New Jersey for inspecting distribution lines. Mileage and toll reimbursement is provided.
