Overview
The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant.
This role involves ensuring that all I&C systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support plant operations, maintenance, and project initiatives.
Responsibilities
System Design & Development
Design and develop new control systems and enhance existing systems to improve efficiency and reliability.
Prepare and review detailed engineering calculations, including AC and DC power studies utilizing ETAP, short circuit analyses, cable ampacity, voltage drop, breaker coordination, motor starting, protective relay settings, and arc-flash assessments.
Specify and select instrumentation components such as pressure, temperature, flow, and level sensors, ensuring compliance with industry standards and plant requirements.
Testing & Validation
Develop and implement test procedures to evaluate system performance and reliability.
Analyze data to ensure accurate measurements and control, making necessary modifications to optimize system functionality.
Documentation & Compliance
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, functional descriptions, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and control narratives.
Ensure all designs and modifications comply with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies.

Collaboration & Support:

Work collaboratively with design engineers, operations personnel, maintenance teams, and other stakeholders to integrate I&C systems seamlessly into plant operations.
Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities.

Project Management:

Manage projects within cost and time-constrained environments, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality solutions.

Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline, OR relevant equivalent work experience

Experience:

Minimum of 3+ years of experience in design, operations, or field service/support for power plants or heavy industrial facilities.
At least 3 years of experience related to the design, operation, or maintenance of operating nuclear power plants in the U.S.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in designing and implementing control systems using tools like ETAP.
Strong understanding of instrumentation components and their applications in a nuclear plant setting.
Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements pertinent to nuclear power plant operations.
