Job Title:
Wire Drawer Job Description As a Wire Drawer, you will be responsible for performing essential duties in a safe manner while working with wire drawing machines. You will need to interpret travelers, read micrometers, and make welds at the rod end of machines. Your role will involve identifying rod types and grades, pulling rods from inventory, and transferring them to staging and rod payoffs as required. You will also need to obtain a forklift license after training, keep the rod end of the mill clean, accurately load rod payoffs, and successfully weld assigned rods without breakage. Responsibilities Perform duties safely and interpret travelers. Read micrometers and make welds at the rod end of the machine. Identify rod types and grades. Pull rods from inventory and transfer them to staging and rod payoffs. Obtain a forklift license after training. Keep the rod end of the mill clean. Accurately load rod payoffs with applicable material. Successfully weld assigned rods without breakage. Clear rod tangles on any wire drawing machine. Properly assemble Pressure/Drawing dies and insert them into die boxes. Change out carriers on any machine. Properly point wire for string up purposes. Perform required physical tests on wire and input information into the system. Assist in fixing wire breaks in the machine. Set cast and helix on the machine. Understand machine controls and troubleshooting water systems. Operate machines at expected utilization levels. Essential Skills Ability to interpret travelers and read micrometers. Experience in welding and identifying rod types and grades. Forklift operation (will train onsite if not certified). Experience in clearing rod tangles on wire drawing machines. Ability to assemble dies and change out carriers. Skill in performing physical tests on wire and inputting data. Understanding of machine controls and troubleshooting. Additional Skills & Qualifications 2+ years of experience within a similar manufacturing environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to lift between 30-50 pounds. Ability to stand for 12 hours at a time. Experience with computer and related equipment. Experience with shop equipment including forklifts, pulling dogs, butt welders. Work Environment The working conditions are dusty, with hot temperatures in the summer and cold temperatures in the winter. The shifts are 6:00pm-6:00am and 6:00am-6:00pm on a 2-2-3 rotation.
