Job Summary:

The Stretcher Leveler CTL (the “Line”) Operator (the “Operator”) uses Human Machine Interface (HMI), a highly sophisticated computer system, to change program parameters that control the Line’s various operations. The Operator Utilizes built-in as well as hand held instruments to measure flatness, gauge, width and length. The Operator uses integrated machine controls to set- up, start, stop, adjust, monitor, trend, and operate the Line to process coils of steel to customer and the manufacturer specifications.. Set-up includes calculations for and verification and/or adjustment of knives, shears, levelers and guides. The Operator follows the Stretcher Leveler CTL manufacturer instructions for starting, stopping, and adjusting the Stretcher Leveler CTL. Monitoring includes the observation of various meters and gauges that indicate machine operating parameters and job progress. As part of the monitoring responsibility, the operator is charged with insuring that the Stretcher Leveler CTL is operated within manufacturer’s acceptable limits of operating parameters (pressure, amperage, etc.) and that the finished goods meet customer specifications. The Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator will be required to have working knowledge of the entire line, and will be required to work the entire line on any given day. Operators will also be required to be capable of loading and unloading the finished goods, changing knives and changing the removable media sheets from the Stretcher Leveler CTL. The Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator will direct other line workers while he is acting in the Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator role. In this job function, the Operator is called on to operate overhead cranes and forklifts. This includes the collection, packaging, tagging, labeling, and transfer of finished goods. This operation may include the operation of overhead cranes, sheet lifters, forklifts, and banding machines. The Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator provides information to packaging personnel to ensure customer specifications are met, and that traceability is maintained. The Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator has the final accountability for monitoring and verifying the quality of finished goods and their adherence to customer specifications, and in maintaining traceability. This includes visual observation and inspection of material for surface defects, burrs, etc., the use of precision measurement tools for size verification, and the monitoring of on-board measurement tooling. The operator is called on to verify the calibration of precision measurement tools to insure their accuracy. The Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator uses, completes, or produces documentation that indicates job status and progress, materials used, returned, or scrapped, results of monitoring, measuring, or testing, and placement or identification of finished products. This documentation is completed according to policies and procedures established at specific locations. The Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator is responsible for the availability of supplies and for the general cleanliness and housekeeping of the applicable work area. The incumbent fulfills this responsibility personally and through the direction of various helpers. These responsibilities insure uninterrupted operation of production equipment and a clutter free and safe working environment. In the event of malfunction, the Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator will be responsible for general maintenance and repair and is responsible for the notification of facility maintenance and/or supervisory personnel for a malfunction not considered general maintenance. The Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator performs all duties according to location policies and procedures, manufacturer instructions, and within accepted safety rules and practices. The incumbent is aware of all applicable emergency procedures and may be called upon to direct others in these procedures. The Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator while he is acting in the Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator role, gives work directions to various helpers. The incumbent is also called on to provide on-the-job instruction in the essential functions of the Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator job for the purpose of developing the skills of others. The Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator will take direction from other Stretcher Leveler CTL Operators when he is not working in the Operator role. At the discretion of supervision or management, the Stretcher Leveler CTL Operator may be asked to perform other duties and tasks or fulfill other responsibilities for which (s)he is qualified at any time.
