Full Job Description Ship Superintendent Objective:
Manage the daily execution of ship repair projects, coordinating labor, materials, and subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary on-site coordinator for assigned ship repair projects Manage daily activities of foremen, craft labor, and subcontractors to meet project schedule and scope Interpret project specifications, drawings, and work orders, and communicate them effectively to the workforce Coordinate with COO to support schedule development, progress tracking, and cost control Ensure all work is performed safely, in compliance with OSHA, company policies, and customer requirements Conduct daily shipboard and yard inspections to monitor progress, quality, and safety Coordinate material and equipment needs with the Yard Superintendent and Purchasing Serve as the customer’s day-to-day point of contact on the vessel for questions, progress updates, and issue resolution Identify and document change conditions and support the COO in preparing change orders Maintain detailed daily logs, including labor hours, work completed, safety observations, and production challenges Coach and mentor other managers throughout the Company Assist in project closeout, including punch list completion and documentation turnover to the customer
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, naval architecture, or a related field, preferred 5+ years of marine repair or engineering experience Demonstrated experience supervising skilled trades and subcontractors in a shipyard or industrial environment Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and specifications OSHA 30 Certification or equivalent safety training preferred Excellent communication skills and leadership abilities Experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) or shipyard management systems preferred Must be able to work in a physically demanding shipyard environment, including climbing ladders, entering confined spaces, and working in varying weather conditions Must be available for extended hours, weekends, or shift work as project demands require
