Technology Job Description Summary:

Provides a diversified range of technical metallurgical services to internal and external customers in support of the attainment of Carpenter Technology goals. Experience in a lean manufacturing environment highly desirable. Primary Responsibilities for the Senior Metallurgist –

Technology:

Responsible for the disposition of referred, non-conforming and off-standard material, including but not limited to RMRs and customer claims Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements, and identifies solutions to non-standard requests. Applies statistical methods to solve problems and design experiments Assists in the use of SPC, six-sigma, and/or BPI tools to detect project inefficiencies Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve processes, products, or services Provides training and education to customers Solves moderately complex problems Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience Ensures a safe workplace Promotes ways to improve the qualify and life and protect the environment in the communities in which the Company does business Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve processes, products, or services Effectively manages small projects or sub-teams, including the coordination of resources Forecasts and plans resources for small projects or sub-teams Monitors and controls costs with assigned area Provides support, leadership, and guidance to peers, customers, and managers on key projects Works independently to address a range of standard and non-standard situations All other duties/tasks as needed Required for the Senior Metallurgist –

Technology:

Four-year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field 4+ years’ metallurgical experience Specialized knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and practices Specialized knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
