- Senior Scientist Ocular Materials
- to be in Jacksonville, Florida.
The ideal candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary group to investigate the impact of various chemical compounds on polymerization kinetics and performance of Class II and Class III medical devices. Project work will include multistep small molecule synthesis and characterization of novel monomers, raw material analysis, formulations, material synthesis, device fabrication and analytical characterization of the finished products. A strong background in organic synthesis is essential, and knowledge of polymer science and photochemistry are desirable. Small molecule process development and scale up activities based on defined repeatability and reproducibility targets will be required.

Key Responsibilities:
- + Create novel small molecules and materials, contributing to intellectual property and advancing new patient benefits for ophthalmic medical device applications.
+ Conduct independent and collaborativeresearch of a highly complex nature where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variable factors. + Utilize broad based scientific literature to develop evidence-based strategies capable of achieving desired molecular structure and performance. + Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team composed of organic chemists, analytical chemists, polymer scientists, biochemists, material scientists, chemical engineers, and medical professionals. + Interact with intellectual property legal, clinical, quality and regulatory functions to support project objectives.
- Qualifications
- + A PhD in organic chemistry, polymer science, material science, or chemical engineering with an emphasis on synthesis, photochemistry, polymers, or polymer physics is required.
+ Proven track record of creative and innovative target molecule development is preferred. + Ability to independently ideate and execute proof-of-concept experiments for novel compounds. + Strong knowledge of photochemical and photophysical processes is desirable. + Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks. + Effective communicator with strong oral and written skills, capable of collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.
