The Engineering Mechanics and Infrastructure (EMI) group at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) has built a solid foundation for advanced engineering services based on experience withplex engineering analyses and design, frequently supported by materials evaluation. Special areas of expertise include failure analysis, wind effects, seismic analysis, soil-structure interaction, dynamic and blast response, structural plastics,posites, metallurgy, and corrosion analysis.

A successful candidate for EMI may work on projects related to buildings, bridges, pipelines, nuclear facilities, tanks, rail vehicles, rotating equipment, precision observatory structures, and other non-building structures and systems.
What You’ll Be Doing:
The candidate will be one of the primary staff in materials science and engineering within Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc. They will participate in projects that have materials (metals, concrete, polymers, andposites) as one of the main issues.
These types of projects include:
the evaluation and specification of materials and processes for new design; investigation of existing materials applications, failure analysis; and the development of repair rmendations. Applications include structuralponents and industrial andmercial products. The candidate will be expected to manage tasks,municate with clients, prepare written reports and presentations, and conduct laboratory and field studies.
Provide support in selecting materials for structural, mechanical, and building applications.
Conduct failure analysis of metals, concrete, polymers,posites, and other structural materials.
Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
Prepare and present reports and presentations to clients.
Manage and conduct laboratory tests and analyses.
Execute the construction-administration phase of projects, including bid assistance, submittal review, site meetings, observations ofpleted work, etc.
Serve as a manager on projects that may include:
Condition assessments of existing buildings
Design of repair/rehabilitation/restoration measures for existing structures and preparation of construction documents
Design and details of structuralponents for adaptive re-use and modifications of existing building structures
Investigation of structural failures and adverse performance issues
Preparation of technical reports
Responsible for direct client contact within the context of assigned work.
Pursue professional activities to gain professional recognition.
Publish articles/papers and give technical presentations.
What You’ll Need:
M.S. or PhD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Structural Engineering, or similar and background of academic excellence.
Minimum 5 years of experience in materials science and engineering.
Professional Engineering License.
Coursework in structural mechanics and design is preferred.
Strong oral and writtenmunication.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage project budgets.
Ability and desire to mentor junior staff and technicians and to oversee their work.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle , if applicable.

Compensation:
Anticipated annual base salary: $88,920 – $123,760. This range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidate’s experience, qualifications and work location.
Base salary is a part of SGH’s industry leading Total Compensation package.
