The Materials andProcess Engineering Department, which functions within MechanicalEngineering, is looking for a Materials Engineer to join our teamin Andover, MA. This role is to support program hardware design anddevelopment and production activities. A qualified candidate willhave a background and experience in metallurgy and evaluatingmaterials and processes used within a product design and/ormanufacturing. This position will offer a qualified candidate theopportunity to support material selections during design,development, and manufacturing of hardware, and support failureanalysis activities associated with a wide range of productapplications. The role will involve evaluation of a variety ofmaterials, with a focus on metals and coatings, and validation andverification that materials and processes used on product meetdesign and program requirements. Tasks will require criticalthinking to solve challenging problems and careful attention todetail on procedures and documentation of results. Collaborationwith design engineers, manufacturing engineers, subject matterexperts, and suppliers is required. A candidate must be able tomanage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks withinset schedule requirements.

What You Will Do:

Evaluation ofmaterials and processes based on conformance to specifications anddesign and performance requirements Working closely with designpersonnel in the selection and approval of materials and finishesin new and updated designs Supporting product production andsupplier support activities Providing evaluation and resolution totechnical, operational, and supplier problems related to materialsand processes Participate in analysis and documentation oftechnical positions for alternate materials, obsolescence, andfailure analysis Ensure labor costs and estimated completionschedules provided by the Materials and Process EngineeringSections are negotiated, understood, and meet product/programcommitments The Senior Materials Engineer job is in Andover, MA andthe position is onsite.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Typicallyrequires a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science andEngineering or Metallurgy and a minimum of 5 years of priorrelevant experience. In absence of a degree, 9 years of experience.

An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted foradditional years of experience Experience in metal alloy systems(i.e. Aluminum, Carbon Steel, Alloy Steel, Corrosion ResistantSteel, High Temperature Materials, and Specialty Alloys) Experiencein metal manufacturing methods (i.e. Casting, Forging, MillProducts, Heat Treatment, Furnace Brazing, Additive Manufacturing)

Qualifications We Prefer:

Experience working on programs, projects,or products associated with the Defense Industry Experience workingwith engineering drawings Experience in working with metals indesign and development (material selections) and/or evaluation ofmetals for use in products Experience working with and evaluationof suppliers performing special manufacturing processes Experiencewith common industry standards for metals and metal manufacturingincluding Aerospace Materials Specifications, American WeldingSociety, and ASTM International. Experience with corrosionfundamentals and mitigation techniques Experience with mechanicaland/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniquesExperience related to Material Review Boards, Material and ProcessChange Boards, Risk Boards, and Engineering Review BoardsExperience with project milestones such as preliminary designreviews and critical design reviews Earned Valued certification orexperience Ability to write concise technical reports summarizinganalyses Demonstrated ability to lead and complete scientific basedprojects including failure analysis and obsolescence investigationsProficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time managementskills ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditationstandard.

Onsite:

Employees who are working in Onsite roles will workprimarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenanceemployees, as they are essential to the development of ourproducts. LI-SM4 The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD -164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimaterepresentative of all experience levels. RTX considers severalfactors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, therole, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s workexperience, location, education/training, and key skills.
