The role of the Product Development Metallurgist includes but is not limited to the following: Leading research and development initiatives of new or existing steel grades including hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized/galvannealed, and other coated products. Coordinating and conducting trials/interfacing with operations, technical, and commercial teams. Directing and coordinating all testing initiatives, both internally and with 3rd party laboratories and/or universities. Leading qualification efforts of new and existing products with automotive OEM’s and other tier 1 suppliers. Supporting customer technical services including direct contact with customers. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, Material Science, or equivalent. 5 years of related engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
M.S./Ph.D. in Metallurgy or Material Science. Prior experience in sheet steel making, refining, continuous casting, hot/cold rolling, and galvanizing. Automotive steel related experience.
