$32.58 – $48.87 per hour (based on experience)

Job Description:

System One is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Metallurgical Technician to support our client based in Chattanooga, TN. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting metallurgical engineers by performing a variety of metallurgical testing and evaluation tasks on materials and components.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare, examine, and evaluate various materials, primarily metals, using metallographic techniques and mechanical testing methods. Conduct chemical analyses, image analyses, and utilize optical and scanning electron microscopy for routine and non-routine analyses. Perform material dedication, component damage assessments, failure analyses, and contribute to research projects. Identify and recommend changes to processes or procedures based on non-routine analysis findings. Provide expert technical assistance to metallurgical engineers and customers by discussing analysis results and recommending additional testing or improvements. Prepare test and calibration reports as requested by metallurgical engineers. Apply Total Quality Management (TQM) principles to resolve problems and achieve performance improvements. Ensure compliance with QA/QC procedures and regulatory requirements, particularly in support of the nuclear power industry. Occasionally review test data developed by lower-grade technicians or other team members.

Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in a related science field. A minimum of four years of laboratory experience in metallographic sample preparation, etching microstructures, hardness measurements, and mechanical testing. Experience with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive analysis (EDS) is highly desirable. Must be willing and medically qualified to work rotating shifts and overtime as permitted during peak periods.
