Are you determined to work with Space Programs?
Provide systems engineering support for the Space Launch System’s (SLS) interfaces with Exploration Ground Systems (EGS). This position directly supports the SLS to EGS Interfaces Sublead on behalf of the Systems Design & Definition Branch (EV72) at Marshall Space Flight Center. This support will include participation in Interface Control Working Groups (ICWG), engineering reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), and trade studies.
Engineering support to be performed includes:
Perform technical integration across SLS elements, diverse engineering and program organizations, and a variety of engineering disciplines such as structures, power, avionics, and human engineering.
Assist in the development of the interface design and negotiate resolution of open requirements, issues, and concerns to ensure closure within the corresponding organizational schedule allowance.
Supply inputs to key systems engineering products for milestones and provide technical insight for these reviews and events.
Assist in technical evaluations of verification closure data and rationale.
Lead technical change requests through the SLS board process, including development of redline changes, disposition of comments, and briefing results to board members.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering from an ABET accredited university or a degree in a related technical discipline synergistic with system design is required.
- Equivalent of a BS with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
Candidate is required to have: - Personality traits indicating a self-motivated, effective team player, familiar with working in a dynamic work environment.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation skills, and presentation skills.
- Basic skills using requirements management database tools such as DOORS Next Generation
- Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook)
- Knowledge of complex systems engineering life cycle end-to-end development ranging from requirements development, functional design, hardware integration, and requirements verification
Candidate is desired to have: - Negotiation skills demonstrated through technical problem solving, and the ability to breakdown problems or issues into manageable pieces.
- An understanding of the current SLS program and working knowledge of the SLS vehicle or EGS
- Experience developing and delivering executive level briefings.
Essential Functions
Work Environment:
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%).
Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
