We are excited to partner with a prestigious and globally recognized company with over 100 years of success and innovation in the metalworking industry to recruit a Mechanical Designer to join their team at their Rome, GA Headquarters. Known for their superior quality and precision, they provide advanced metalworking tools, equipment and services that set the standard worldwide. In this role you will use SolidWorks to design flexible shaft products that are used in conjunction with the company’s metalworking tools, as well as associated components, and manufacturing equipment & tooling.
Job Duties:
Design
Design of flexible shafts, the associated components, and manufacturing equipment.
Knowledge of PPAP, PFD, PFMEA, and control plan creation and upkeep.
Troubleshoot new and existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
Provides detailed technical guidance and training to machine operators, Mechanics, and Mechanical Technicians.
Develops and documents standard training practices
Creates and maintains mechanical drawings for new and current models.
Participates in review of customer requirements (new products or changes) and feasibility reviews.
Process
Support with product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
Identify opportunities to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of modern processing technology.
Conducts performance analysis to reduce processing cost through creative engineering and proactive procedures.
Determines root causes to failure and recommends changes in design and processing methods.
Project Management
Support and develop a strong team that is cross functional across all departments.
Generate, maintain and adhere to project expense and capital budgets.
Ensure Engineering work orders and costing assigned are processed on time (KPIs).
Interact with production personnel on possible new or existing production and/or processes.
Ability to manage Engineering projects and ensure project objectives are met.
Manage the launch of new or significantly changed products. Working with Production for trials and engineering samples with departments to ensure the smooth and effective transition of said changes and the associated processes including equipment, tooling, and work instructions.
Requirements:
BS in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university; Or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of 3 – 5 years experience in mechanical, system design, and 3D CAD design.
Minimum of 3 years experience as a designer and draftsperson, designing tool from sketches or verbal concepts.
Knowledge of basic GD&T
Proficient with SolidWorks 3D modeling package.
Ability to concept and design solutions that are economical and technically sound.
Knowledge of the use of pneumatics, as well as the use of electrical devices such as switches, servo systems, etc.
Ongoing knowledge of leading-edge technology is essential.
Strong sense of urgency and time management skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to clearly communicate information and ideas both verbally and in writing
Ability to listen to, read and understand information and ideas communicated verbally and in writing.
