Senior Mechanical Automation Designer Location:
Johns Creek, GA (Onsite) Key Responsibilities Design custom mechanical components and automation tooling from sketches, verbal input, or concepts. Develop complete drawing packages, BOMs, and documentation using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Perform engineering calculations (e.g., force, stress, speed, pressure) to ensure robust designs. Select and specify components for pick-and-place systems, grippers, vision systems, and bowl feeders. Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including electrical designers and PLC programmers. Review designs for compliance with industry standards (e.g., OSHA, CE). Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, and system integration. Interface with vendors for component specs and customers for design reviews and updates. Support installation and commissioning of automation systems. Lead and delegate tasks within a project team; manage timelines, resources, and documentation. Contribute to the development of design best practices and departmental standards. Required Skills & Qualifications Minimum 5 Years Exp Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks and strong understanding of drafting principles. Solid knowledge of machine shop practices , machining techniques, and material selection. Hands-on experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems . Familiarity with electrical components used in automation (e.g., switches, load cells, LVDTs, PLC interfaces). Ability to conceptualize complex automation solutions and troubleshoot design challenges. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Highly self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision. Experience with automation line manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. Preferred Experience Working knowledge of safety standards and compliance requirements (OSHA, CE). Experience leading design efforts and mentoring junior designers. Familiarity with ISO processes and documentation practices.
