Job Description
Position Summary:
The successful candidate will support the development of the next generation of communication optical fibers from concept to deployment. The candidate will be responsible for the development of characterization techniques for communication optical fibers and support the development of novel optical fiber manufacturing processes. The job involves using existing measurement equipment and analytical techniques, as well as developing new characterization techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
Developing measurement techniques for existing and next generation communication optical fibers.
Working with test equipment vendors to specify test equipment or develop new test methods and equipment.
Hands-on optical fiber characterization to support new product development and new process development.
Perform statistical data analysis and develop automation to speed up data collection and data analysis.
Collaboration with a diverse global team of engineers and scientists.
Minimum Education Required:
A Ph.D. or M.S. with 3+ years of work experience in Optics, Physics, or Engineering.
Additional Qualifications:
A strong understanding of optical fiber waveguides and electromagnetics.
Demonstrated skills in developing optical measurements.
Hands-on experience with optical fiber characterization and working with fiber optic test equipment, such as lasers, power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, OTDR, etc.
Computer skills:
MS Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), SQL, database proficiency, experience using statistical software (e.g. R, JMP, etc.); experience with scripting/automation/programming tools (e.g. Python, Visual Basic, MatLab/Octave, Labview, C/C++/C#) are beneficial.
A working knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) and Six Sigma techniques is beneficial with prior experience in statistical data analysis and data-based decision making.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
