Full Job Description Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Mechanical Design Engineering Team Lead to oversee and guide a team of engineers in the development of cutting-edge mechanical systems and components. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strong leadership and communication skills to drive innovation, ensure high-quality deliverables, and foster collaboration. This role involves hands-on design work as well as mentoring and supporting the engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership• Lead and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers, providing guidance, and technical support. Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure project deliverables meet deadlines and quality standards. Foster a positive, collaborative, and innovative team environment
Design and Development:
• Oversee the design and development of mechanical components and systems. Review and approve CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation. Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
Technical Expertise:
• Perform advanced design, analysis, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems. Conduct design reviews to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Utilize simulation and FEA tools to validate and optimize designs.
Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and other engineers. Work closely with project management to contribute to project schedule and budget development and maintenance Communicate work status, challenges, and solutions to project management Support contractor management as technical point of contact as required
Continuous Improvement:
• Identify opportunities for process improvements within the design team. Stay updated with advancements in mechanical engineering tools, materials, and methodologies. Implement best practices for design workflows and documentation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in mechanical design, including leadership or mentorship roles. Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred). Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes (e.g. CNC, injection molding), GD&T, and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL). Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills:
Proven experience in leading design teams. Familiarity with DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly). Knowledge of rapid prototyping, 3D printing technologies, and emerging trends in mechanical design. Understanding of regulatory and compliance standards for the industry. Experience with design for injection molding Experience with motors and motor control Familiarity with electronics such as soldering, crimping, and the integration of electronics into mechanical designs Familiarity with wire harnesses Experience with customer-facing programs and application integration
