Overview
This job posting is for a Lead Engineer on the DDG(x) Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Proof of Concept (PoC) project. For the duration of the PLM PoC, the successful candidate will function as the overall lead Engineer with responsibilities as follows:
Report directly to the PLM PoC Program Manager for the duration of the PoC.
Oversee all Functional Engineers currently assigned to the PLM PoC project (Structure, Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC).
Oversee development of Engineering specific deliverables related to the PLM PoC milestones.
Effectively communicate & collaborate with all other members of the PoC (PMO, CM, Design, IT, Navy, HII, SSI).
Support required travel for working groups & training sessions as part of the PLM PoC.
Drive Systems Engineering philosophy (requirements definition up front all the way to requirements verification of the design at the end) into all aspects of the digital thread and the overall PLM implementation strategy.
Act as the representative for Systems Engineering work and interests.
After conclusion of the PLM PoC, the successful candidate will transition to supporting full-up implementation of the PLM into BIW Engineering process for DDG(x), and will then return to the Systems Integration (SI) Organization supporting initial development and implementation of various Combat Systems (CS) and Hull / Mechanical / Electrical (HME) Systems on DDG(x) program, with typical responsibilities as follows:
Provide technical leadership for all assigned systems and related tasks.
Develop & maintain Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) models using CAMEO software for assigned systems.
Participate in and/or lead Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) in early development of ship design.
Act as Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) for significant
CS / HME
changes.
Interface with the Navy, Navy Contractors, Functional Engineering, Class Design, BIW and HII to resolve technical issues.
Develop and process Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) in accordance with schedule constraints.
Ensure that all developed ECPs meet applicable functional engineering and Navy specification requirements.
Provide support to Planning for development of accurate implementation plans.
Provide support to Estimating for development of accurate cost estimates.
Develop and deliver presentations to management and/or Navy personnel.
Develop ROM estimates for emergent
CS / HME
Engineering work.
Participate in and/or lead off-site meetings and other events occasionally.
Head up special projects as assigned.
NOTE:
During any potential gaps in funding during the PLM PoC, or full-up implementation phases, the candidate would return to SI organization and perform base DDG(x) SI support work.
Responsibilities
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering is Required.
Sr. Engineer / E Band – 5+ years experience Required.
Principal Engineer / F Band – 12+ years experience Required.
Qualifications
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong knowledge of BIW Engineering processes.
Strong knowledge of requirements definition (Ship Specs, Purchase Specs, Contract Drawings, VFI / GFI), and BIW review / check / verification processes.
Ability to organize, plan, and execute projects.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Highly motivated, strong attention to detail with proven ability to work independently.
WINDOWS, WINDOWS
software, and MS Office products operating skills are required.
Experience with Microsoft Excel required.
Ability to solve and explain complex technical issues.
Demonstrated ability to work multiple priorities simultaneously, and to completion.
Knowledge of
MBSE & CAMEO
is preferred but not required.
SECRET clearance or ability to obtain SECRET clearance.
