This is a full-time Mechanical Engineering Associate Sr position located in Stennis Space Center, MS.Visa RequirementsCitizen onlyOverviewSierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).ResponsibilitiesPerform engineering duties in planning and operational design of facility mechanical systems, machinery utilization/upgrades, preventative and corrective maintenance, oversee installations, operations, maintenance and repair of piping, cryogenic, hydraulic, valves, RV’s, and high pressure water systems, storage vessels, barges, and facility modifications. Work areas can involve tight quarters and physical agility/dexterity is necessary to perform job functions. Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision. Interact professionally with other employees, customers, and outside vendors. Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations. Some positions may require entry into confined spaces with proper PPE and training. Assist supervisors and managers in identifying and mitigating potentially hazardous conditions.
Required Skills:
Experience with government facilities programs desirable but not necessary. Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills. Familiarity with rocket propulsion desirable but not necessary – willing to learn. The candidate shall have a good command of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint).A working knowledge of the English language is required. The candidate shall be able to operate in a team environment, and shall have good interpersonal, reporting and communication skills (written and verbal).Troubleshooting, identifying, and resolving mechanical problems, including equipment, valve, and piping issues. Repair, replacing damaged or malfunctioning mechanical components (relief valves, valves, tubing, piping, supports, pumps, tanks, etc). Have a working knowledge of tubing bending, associated equipment, and installation. Testing using test equipment to measure flow rates, pressures, etc to ensure proper system function. Following Safety Regulations adhering to safety standards and regulations, including OSHA and other local codes.
Communicating with Clients/Customers explaining mechanical issues to customers, outlining repair solutions, and recommending preventative measures. Reading drawings, P&ID’s and Blueprints, and interpreting technical diagrams to understand system layouts and piping and instrumentation configurations. Using Tools and Equipment, employing a variety of tools and measuring instruments for installation, testing, and repair tasks. Perform routine preventative/corrective maintenance following established schedules and procedures. Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs. Work with engineers and other technicians to improve processes and troubleshoot complex issues.
Write technical procedures, routine reports and work authorizing documents. Applies advanced technical knowledge in solving complex problems associated with the design, operations, troubleshooting and maintenance of mechanical systems. Determine best methods for facility modifications and upgrades to mechanical systems with respect to cost, schedule impacts, reliability, efficiency, and complexity of operation.
Guide and instruct technicians in their day-to-day work processes as required. Effectively coordinate and communicate techni al issues with management and work in close contact with facility users and customers. All other duties as required.
Qualifications:
6 years as a mechanical technician or, 5 years of SSC site work experience. 2 year degree in related field desirable, but work experience counts. Computer experience. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. The candidate shall be a US Citizen. The candidate must be able to complete a background check for test complex and facility access.
