Mechanical Engineer Job Description We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer who will interact with field sales, tech support, and customers to identify pain points and translate that voice of the customer into engineering design specifications and solutions. You will identify and execute sustaining engineering opportunities on existing products by improving quality, enhancing features/performance, or reducing cost. You will lead projects from concept to release with a strong sense of urgency, utilizing company product release and engineering change processes. You will also be responsible for all aspects of the design including FEA, CAD, specifications, agency requirements, tolerance analysis, DFMEA/PFMEA, stress and fatigue analysis, and creating and maintaining accurate complete drawing packages, costed BOMs, and product specifications. Responsibilities Coordinate the purchase of production or prototype hardware and software for testing. Plan, perform, and document validation testing for all stages of projects. Assure accurate project schedules are created and maintained. Essential Skills Experience with injection molded plastic parts. Proficiency in SolidWorks. Project management skills. Experience in a manufacturing environment. Sustaining engineering experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, Mechanical with some Electrical preferred. 5+ years of experience as an engineer doing product or process changes or design, preferably in a sustaining role. 5+ years of experience using solid modeling CAD design tools (SolidWorks preferred). 2+ years of experience in leading engineering-based projects. Strong problem-solving mindset and understanding of RCCM methodology. Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude. Computer literate with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail. Experience with VA/VE tools to identify product improvement opportunities. Understanding of plastic, injection molding, and sheet metal processes including material properties and part design. Hands-on prototyping and testing capabilities beneficial. Experience in high-volume lean manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of PPAP’s, DVP&R’s, DFMEA’s, PFMEA’s, and GD&T. Experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems, BOM structuring, and ECO processes. Regulatory agency experience/knowledge (UL, CE, NSF) preferred.
