Mechanical Engineer Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to facilitate mechanical building system startups and commissioning activities. The role requires providing expert assistance in reviewing product and equipment submittals, shop drawings, engineering design drawings, and specifications, as well as handling contractor-generated RFIs. You will possess extensive knowledge of safety procedures, safe work practices, and OSHA requirements for mechanical installations. Responsibilities Facilitate mechanical building system startups and commissioning activities. Provide subject matter expert assistance in reviewing product and equipment submittals, shop drawings, engineering design drawings, and specifications. Work with building construction contractors and equipment vendors to coordinate equipment factory testing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and handover to end users. Coordinate weekend and plant shutdown work with contractors, plant facilities groups, and manufacturing shops. Conduct continuous work progress inspections. Support construction administration activities related to schedule coordination, quality confirmations, weekly coordination meetings, and planned utility outages. Conduct inspections and observations of mechanical building systems for compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes. Oversee work of mechanical contractors for adherence to project delivery methods, schedule milestone targets, and coordination with other groups. Prepare field engineering status reports of work progress and schedule to Project Managers. Provide input and feedback to improve project technical specifications and standards. Effectively communicate technical matters in written and verbal formats. Multi-task, manage time, and prioritize project commitments based on established deadlines and project milestones. Essential Skills Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. 2+ years in construction management. 5+ years in the mechanical design field. Experience in design criteria development for mechanical systems. Automotive experience with engine, transmission, or vehicle facilities or similar industrial manufacturer. Good organizational, communication, and schedule management skills. Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project. Additional Skills & Qualifications Proficiency in Bluebeam and AutoCAD. Knowledge of MEP and Mechanical Systems. Familiarity with building codes and professional industry standards such as IBC, NEC, NESC, NFPA, AMCA, ARI, AWS, ASHRAE, and FM. Work Environment The role involves coordinating with building construction contractors and equipment vendors, and may require weekend and plant shutdown work. The position demands rigorous inspections of mechanical systems to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes.
