Mechanical Engineer Job Description We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC system designs, including ductwork, piping, and controls across diverse projects. The role involves performing load calculations to ensure system efficiency and compliance, overseeing multiple projects from concept to completion, and managing a team of engineers. This position requires collaboration with architects and contractors to integrate HVAC solutions into building designs, participation in business development efforts, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC modeling software to develop system layouts and specifications. Responsibilities Lead the design of HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and controls. Perform heating and cooling load calculations for system efficiency. Oversee projects from concept to completion, ensuring adherence to budgets and timelines. Manage and mentor a team of 6-7 engineers, providing technical guidance and professional development. Conduct site visits and inspections as needed. Be involved in Fire Protection and Plumbing design. Participate in business development efforts, including client meetings and proposal development. Ensure designs meet building codes, ASHRAE standards, and energy regulations. Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines. Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC modeling software for design. Essential Skills Proven management experience for a team of up to 7 engineers. Ability to design all aspects of HVAC systems including cooling plants, chillers, and heating plants. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Trane Trace. Strong communication and negotiation skills. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. 10+ years of experience in HVAC design, including leadership roles. Additional Skills & Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. Experience in mechanical design, plumbing, fire protection, and MEP design. Willingness to travel to job sites as needed. Work Environment This position is based in Cedar Knolls, NJ, with in-office work required five days a week. The firm fosters a casual environment, encouraging professional development and continuous career growth. Flexible start times are offered between 7am and 9am. The work environment promotes efficiency with all architects and engineering trades in-house, allowing for seamless project execution. The team works on a variety of public and private projects, ranging from small to large in scope, ensuring every project is unique and interesting.
