Together we create and sustain Corning’smanufacturing as a differential advantage. Day-to-DayResponsibilities This job description is intended to represent anentry-level engineering role at Corning. As a recent collegegraduate, entry level engineer you will: Assigned to engineeringproject teams that are responsible to deliver robust, costeffective automation and machine systems to Corning’s manufacturingplants and processes. Work with project team members to solvedifficult mechanical engineering and equipment related problems,resolve project related issues, and develop basic understanding ofprocess and equipment design requirements. Focus will be on thedesign, debug, installation, and start-up of process machines,machine components and material handling systems. Responsible todevelop fundamental understanding of assigned areas (materialselection, error budgets, tolerance analysis, componentspecification, process requirements, machine functionality, etc).Assist with appropriate proof of concept and prototype testing tovalidate design concept. Work with external machine builders,system integrators, and suppliers to successfully deliver assignedareas of responsibility to overall project team on-time, on-budget,and in satisfaction of process performance measures. Supports thegeneration of fabrication drawings (using 2D/3D software packages),installation drawings, and ensures that final drawing packagesreflect as-built conditions and satisfies Corning drawingstandards. Actively participates in system integration & debug,installation, production start-up, and training of plant personnel.

Report on project activities, status, and issues on a periodicbasis to project & department leadership. Individual must becapable of executing project assignments in a team-basedenvironment and able to participate on a highly matrixed projectteam to execute project assignments, with minimal supervision.

Travel Requirements:

Estimate travel at 50% to 70% depending uponspecific project assignment. Travel may be required duringinstallation, debug, and start-up as well as for routineinteraction with Customers and Suppliers.

Hours of work/workschedule/flex-time:

Normal Business Hours (8 – 5, M – F), however,expected to work hours required to achieve project objectivesincluding overtime, weekend, and off-shift hours during equipmentinstallation and production start-up. Required Eduation andExperience B.S in Mechanical Engineering with 0 to 2 years inMechanical Engineering. High level of technical curiosity that willenable unique solutions to the technical challenges incumbent inthe position. Interest and ability to learn, develop, and advancetechnical skills in mechanical design, process equipmentdevelopment, robotics, material handling, and system integration.

Fundamental understanding of materials, process, mechanical designto enable the development of cost-effective process machinesystems. Ability to use experimentation to develop basic processknowledge, design prototype test systems, and perform proof ofprinciple testing to validate design approach. Familiar withstate-of-the-art technologies in the following areas:electro-mechanical drive systems, fluid power, pneumatics,robotics, material handling, alignment, part sensing, and safetystandards. Ability to effectively leverage and manage externalmachine builders and system integrators for detail design, build,and integration of later stages of machine system implementation.

Willing to travel, as detailed above Desired SkillsEntrepreneurial Forward looking Knowledge of glass and ceramicmanufacturing Experienced with SolidWorks and AutoCAD designsoftware Experience with use of standard computer modeling andanalysis software packages used in design of mechanical systems.

This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The rangefor this position is $65,346.00 – $89,852.00 assuming full timestatus. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on avariety of job-related factors, including but not limited togeographic location, market demands, experience, training, andeducation.
