Job Summary
DRS NPS has an immediate need for a Senior Test Engineer (STE) to provide support for qualification and production testing activities of steam turbines and rotating electrical machinery. They will work closely with design engineering, program management, manufacturing and field services to achieve objectives in a fast paced and dynamic environment. Assignments can range from test procedure and schedule generation to test directing and execution.
This position will require approximately 33% travel to Fitchburg, MA from hire date to fall 2025 when we gain occupancy of our new facility in Goose Creek, SC.
Job Responsibilities
Develop test procedures that conform with product requirements and procurement specifications for quality and performance verification.
Identify the phases of manufacture and assembly in which test functions must be aplished
Influence the design, architecture, and capability of the DRS NPS test facility.
Develop test plans for new product development and existing product sustainment.
Lead the execution of test procedures during the product qualification stage.
Provide input for the design, specification and procurement of specialized test fixtures, data collection hardware and equipment, and data analysis software.
Assist test engineering analysists with real time interpretation of test data to generate results.
Coordinate with design / Subject Matter Expert Engineering for the interpretation of results / non-conformances.
Manage test program deficiencies through tiers of troubleshooting and timely adjudication of test program deficiencies to maintain test program schedule and critical path.
Coordinate the operation of the test facility (e.g. steam plant / electric machines test plant).
Lead problem solving activities using problem solving techniques such as six-sigma principles and performing RCCA.
Contribute to customer relationships.
Has initiative and able to work effectively with little direction seeking general guidance on new assignments as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering field with 5 years applicable engineering experience or equivalentbination of education/training and experience.
Specialties may include power plant / propulsion plant operations, test procedure writing execution and certification, data analysis.
Ability to lead a growing team
US Citizenship is required.
Ability to obtain a security clearance is required.
Additional Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge
Broad understanding of electro-mechanical and steam turbine equipment.
Experience operating Navy steam turbines or equivalent machinery.
Steam plant operation experience.
Experience with leading test programs.
Experience with work controls / tag outs.
Model Based Systems Engineering.
Data Acquisition System operational experience.
Multivariable and multiple channel trending and monitoring of data.
Interpersonal andmunication skills needed to positively influence test program execution.
Detail oriented with a desire to be hands-on.
Ability to learn new skills quickly and assume additional responsibilities.
Must possess strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Strong knowledge of personalputer software tools like MS Excel and Word.
